Viewers recently saw a big change come to CBS Evening News. This also came out around talk of a rebrand impacting the series. Since then, one prominent figure in the media has reacted to these recent claims. So, what did they have to say? Keep reading for more details.
CBS Evening News Recently Had A Big Announcement Following A Recent Change
CBS Evening News has existed in some form since 1941. Over the years, viewers have seen the show go through various changes.
This includes the series’ name, anchors, and even its place of production, which has alternated between New York City and Washington, D.C. In fact, the series has seen a new anchor as it ushered in a new year.
On January 3, 2026, CBS alum Tony Dokoupil became the show’s anchor, giving the series the new title, CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil. Notably, Dokoupil was originally set to make his debut the following Monday.
Around this time, Dokoupil outlined a new direction for CBS News in a straight-to-social-media video. As he explained, the show would attempt to focus on the perspective of average Americans. Dokoupil noted, as previously reported, the media has focused too much on “advocates … academics or elites.”
However, Dokoupil’s words have not been without criticism. Megyn Kelly recently criticized the move on her own SiriusXM show, saying the rebrand was doomed to failure.
For her part, Kelly is known for working with Fox News from 2004 to 2017. During this time, she hosted America Live and The Kelly File. Following this, she anchored Megyn Kelly Today from 2017 to 2018.
Megyn Kelly Had Choice Words For Tony Dokoupil
In her recent share, Kelly felt, “CBS Evening News will fail. CBS will not be turned around by Bari Weiss or anybody else. I’m sorry, but its days have passed.”
Kelly also claimed that CBS hadn’t been in the “running for dominance” over the past twenty years. She continued, “CBS News has not been relevant for forever, and it doesn’t matter who they put in the evening news chair or how late in the game they’ve realized that none of us trusts or, more importantly, needs them anymore.”
During her video, Kelly also had a few choice words for Dokoupil, claiming that he hadn’t been representing average Americans before, noting that he had been with CBS for years and NBC before that. She added, “Where was he standing up for people who were in the independent lane trying to tell the truth about media, about government, about the Biden administration?”
