Beartooth fans are reacting to the news that the band’s lead singer, Caleb Shomo, is a “proudly gay man.” While his followers are showing support for the 33-year-old, they’re also expressing concern for his wife, Fleur Shomo, who broke her silence on the matter just hours ago.
On Reddit, fans of the rock band have been sharing their thoughts on the news that the group’s lead singer, Caleb Shomo, is gay.
He opened up about his sexuality in an Instagram post after months of “speculation.” In the post, Shomo called himself a “proudly gay man” before saying his sexuality is something he’s struggled with his entire life.
“It’s been difficult to navigate the feelings surrounding the subject and figure out what to do with this fact,” he said.
On Reddit, some of the band’s fans have reacted, with one saying they were “definitely a bit surprised” by his admission. Another Redditor said, “I hope he finds happiness and support, and am glad he found the strength to be true to himself. There’s enough hate in this world without us hating ourselves.”
Beartooth Fans Are Expressing Concern For Fleur Shomo, Caleb’s Wife, After He Makes A Personal Admission
While the support continued, other users also expressed concern for Caleb’s wife, Fleur, who opened up about the end of their 14-year marriage in an Instagram post of her own.
“Sucks his marriage fell apart over it as I know his wife stood by him with all the substance abuse, but you can’t change who you are so I say good for him,” one user wrote.
“I wonder what this means for his marriage and his wife. Obviously — I imagine — they discussed this in depth. I feel really bad for her, but I’m happy for him. I hope he feels free,” a second user shared.
“Good for him, but his poor wife. It has to be pretty traumatic to have your whole world be turned upside down like this,” someone else added.
“14 years of marriage, sacrifice, love & compassion… to end up turning out to be gay. Idk man, kudos to Caleb for being honest with himself because that’s a very big step, but I genuinely feel terrible for his wife though. 14 years is a big chunk outta yours & your wife’s life to just leave behind man,” said a fourth user.
Caleb Shomo Attempted To Use His Music To Address His Personal Life, But Could Never Get To ‘The Roots’
In his post, Caleb said he had been using Beartooth’s music to vocalize some of what he’d been struggling with. However, Caleb explained that he was fighting bigger issues than he realized, stopping him from getting to “the roots” of who he was.
“As you could gather if you’ve followed the band at all in the earlier years, there are 4 very self deprecating albums about exploring my religious upbringing, depression, self hatred, and hopelessness. I am grateful for all these albums, yet feel embarrassed at times that I wouldn’t allow myself to really dig up the roots for so long,” he said.
Caleb’s Wife Breaks Her Silence With A Heartfelt Post, Showing Support While Acknowledging Her Hurt
Caleb’s wife, Fleur, acknowledged her husband’s post with one of her own, admitting she was struggling to come to terms with what she’d been dealing with.
“Not really sure how to start this cause does anything even need to be said? But I guess I’ll just dive right in,” she wrote. “The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate. For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world.”
Fleur Is Struggling To Support Herself Amid This Change
Continuing, Fleur noted the “confusion and pain” her husband likely went through over the years, adding that she’s glad he’s finally found the courage to speak.
Elsewhere in her post, Fleur got candid about how challenging it has been to deal with her husband’s revelation. “To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out. You can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished & lose yourself at the same time,” she explained.
She finished her post with even more love for Caleb, saying, “I hope anyone in the world going through this finds hope & courage & I hope the fans can continue to support Caleb. For now I’m going to keep focusing on what I can control & continue living my life trying to achieve what I want to achieve. And if I keep saying hi to as many dogs as possible along the way, then I’m sure things will slowly get better, day by day, piece by small piece, bird by bird.”
