Years after Fergie and Josh Duhamel shocked Hollywood by ending their decade-long marriage, more perspective has emerged about what led to their split.
The former couple, who share a son, reportedly clashed over whether to expand their family, with Duhamel said to have wanted more children.
They split in 2017, and Duhamel has since walked down the aisle again with his wife, Audra Mari. The pair already shares a son, and is now preparing to welcome a baby girl into the family.

The Ex-Couple Had Different Views About Expanding Their Family
Back in 2017, Fergie and Josh Duhamel shocked fans when they decided to end their decade-long marriage, which many had viewed as one of Hollywood’s most solid relationships.
Their split was finalized two years later, and in 2022, Duhamel remarried Audra Mari.
Now, according to reports obtained by the Daily Mail, Duhamel, who already has a kid with Mari and one on the way, had big issues with Fergie over expanding their family.
“Josh really wanted to have more children, and Fergie was really content with having one, and it was a big tipping point in their marriage,” a source told the outlet.
Beyond this “big tipping point,” their split was also fueled by their differing personalities, with Duhamel being more extroverted compared to his ex-wife.

“He’s more of a social butterfly, and Fergie is a bit more reserved and quiet. They are both very kind-hearted, good people, but they had different directions with what they ultimately wanted out of life when it came to expanding their family,” the insider further remarked.

The Singer’s Love For Independence Also Played A Part In Her Split From The Actor

Still on the split, a different source also pointed to how Fergie played a part, beyond her major disagreement with Duhamel over kids.
According to the insider, the singer prefers her independence, although family remains “super important” to her.
“She thrives much better by herself, able to do what she wants to do,” said the source about Fergie.
“You can almost suggest that as a reason she isn’t with the Black Eyed Peas anymore. There is still respect with the band, but she thrives better when by herself, when she can do a lot more for herself and not be stuck in an environment where she feels emotionally or creatively held back,” they added.

“Now that sounds intense and somewhat mean, but she doesn’t intend it to be. She just knows the person she is, the mother she is, and has to be, and being in situations that are overall good for her wellbeing is what is important, and that is why she and Josh didn’t end up working out,” the source also noted.

Fergie And Josh Duhamel Have Remained Amicable Since Their Split

Since Fergie and Duhamel’s divorce, they have continued to co-parent their son Axl, who turns 13 in August.
Their relationship seemingly remains very much amicable, as seen by the actor heaping praises on Fergie during an appearance on “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” Podcast.
He called the pop star a “great mom,” “very kind,” “very non-confrontational.”
Duhamel also claimed that Fergie shares a “great relationship” with his new wife, Audra Mari.
The Singer Thinks Her Ex-Husband Is ‘A Great Dad’

The amicability between Fergie and Duhamel was further stressed by the first insider while speaking with the Daily Mail.
They noted that the former couple has “zero bad blood” between them and also has a great co-parenting relationship.
“Fergie thinks Josh is a great dad, and they co-parent really well together. There’s zero bad blood between them, and they both speak very highly of one another,” the source added.
“All of the kind things Josh said on the podcast, Fergie feels the same way towards him. It was 100 percent accurate and genuine,” they continued.

Further proof that Fergie and Duhamel have remained good friends came when she gushed over her ex-husband’s wife’s second baby announcement.

Fergie then responded by liking the post, alongside a congratulatory message.
