The first look at Henry Cavill (Superman) in the upcoming Chad Stahelski reboot of Highlander has been released online on his personal Instagram.
On Wednesday Morning, Cavill wrote, “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.” alongside two photos of him in the role.
He was first announced to star in the reboot back in 2021, but filming has only recently started. Production was unfortunately delayed late last year as Cavill was injured during prep for the film. The first-look photos don’t reveal too much, but they do resemble the style of the John Wick movies, which were all directed by Stahelski.
The original Highlander was released in 1986 and starred Christopher Lambert as an immortal Scottish warrior named Connor MacLeod who was born in the 16th century. The cast also featured Sean Connery, who played Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, another immortal who mentored Connor, as well as Clancy Brown, who played The Kurgan, who hunted down Connor in 1980s New York City. Lambert and Connery later returned for a sequel in 1991 before the franchise continued through other media forms. Outside of Cavill, the rumoured cast for the reboot includes Russell Crowe (due to play the Connery role), Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista (due to play the Brown role), Marisa Abela and Max Zhang. Other information we know about the project includes that Michael Finch wrote the script with Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson working on earlier drafts of the film.
