A post on Reddit claims that Fizz Mobile’s website was glitching the other day to show the option to sign up for a 5G plan alongside the current slate of 4G LTE plans.
MobileSyrup was able to replicate the glitch. However, Fizz’s website has since gone down (possibly related to this morning’s Cloudflare outage, judging by the errors we saw) — now that it’s back, the glitch isn’t present. Fizz also didn’t respond to questions about the 5G glitch prior to publication.
Those who spotted the glitch were unable to click on the new heading since it would disappear too quickly once the page loaded, but it is no surprise that Fizz is likely getting into 5G spectrum. Videotron, which owns Fizz and Freedom Mobile, has been making a concerted effort to spread both providers further across Canada, and adding some low-cost 5G plans to Fizz will definitely help with that. 5G can also bring benefits to high traffic areas like concerts, which would be nice for Fizz users.
That said, Fizz is currently missing some basic features like Wi-Fi calling and RCS on iPhone, which is likely to hold more people back than the lack of 5G. That said, maybe these things will launch alongside the 5G service when/if it’s announced.
Since the 5G plans appear to be in a separate tab, it is more than likely that they will cost more than the existing 4G options. That said, Fizz always has pretty great deals, so I expect the 5G plans to be very competitive with Public Mobile and other lower-cost 5G plans.
