In 2020, the singer sued LaBeouf for sexual battery and assault, and even though they were able to come to a settlement five years later before going to trial, FKA Twigs is still on edge.

Despite the painful history, Twigs is determined to put it behind her and is more concerned with focusing on her music and art.

In December 2020, FKA Twigs revealed that she had suffered abuse from Shia LaBeouf and sued him for assault, sexual battery, and emotional distress after a year of dating.

She also cited incidents of being allegedly strangled and being psychologically manipulated by the filmmaker.  Twigs sued LaBeouf, but the two came to a private settlement for an undisclosed amount.

Two months after the settlement, the pop star commented for the first time on the end of the lengthy legal battle.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Twigs was asked if she felt a sense of safety after settling the matter with her ex-lover, and she answered, “No, I wouldn’t say I feel safe.”

Twigs noted that while she doesn’t necessarily feel safe, she is pouring her attention into organizations that can help people like her who have been through similar ordeals.

“I feel really passionate about being involved with organizations such as Sistah Space and No More, to help survivors in any way that I can. I think it’s less about me at this point and more about looking forward. Just, you know, moving on with my life,” she added.

When she filed the lawsuit in 2020, Twigs described the ordeal as the “worst thing” she had ever been through in her life. She noted that it didn’t all happen all at once, but gradually over a period of time until she completely lost herself.

When FKA Twigs filed the lawsuit, she sued LaBeouf for $10 million for the alleged abuse that she went through at his hands.

In July, the “Cellophane” singer’s lawyer filed to dismiss the case with prejudice, after which a joint statement was released from both parties.

“While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future,” it read. Following the dismissal, fans aired their divided opinions on the matter.

“I was always on Shia’s side since day one. I knew she was dragging it out,” one fan wrote, per The Blast.

“That’s unexpected. Whatever the reason behind the dismissal, we hope FKA twigs finds peace and healing. Justice and personal well-being should always go hand in hand,” another fan added.

Before FKA Twigs dismissed the lawsuit against her former lover, the 39-year-old actor accused her of evading deposition.

As reported by The Blast, the actor claimed to have attempted to depose the singer for over a year without success.

LaBeouf’s lawyer also alleged that his client’s ex-girlfriend was not being honest about her claims of being unable to work due to the abuse she suffered.

“(FKA) attests that Shia’s alleged actions have resulted in severe emotional and mental distress, affecting her ability to work as long hours and perform as often as before. However, (FKA) is working so much that she has been too busy over the past two years to even appear for her deposition,” the actor’s lawyer said.

Labeouf’s statements came two years after he admitted to being a selfish, “pleasure-seeking” person in the past.

Although he didn’t directly mention Twigs in his comments, he acknowledged that he wasn’t the best partner to her during the course of their relationship

“I hurt that woman. And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people, and many other people before that woman,” the “Transformers” actor said during an episode of the “Real Ones” podcast, per The Blast.

The actor also noted that he has a “long list” of people to make amends with and thanked Twigs for having a positive impact on his life.

Twigs has also been candid about speaking out against LaBeouf, expressing pride in her ability to stand up to him.

As reported by The Blast, the 37-year-old singer said that if she ever has children in the future, she would want them to know that she wasn’t quiet in the face of abuse.

She also acknowledged that while speaking up can sometimes get “messy,” it is the ideal thing to do because what happened to her “wasn’t right.”
