Last year, Food Network fans saw the tragic loss of Anne Burrell, who worked on a number of the network’s programs. Since then, more details have come out about her final moments. Notably, authorities have shared that she left a few messages during her last moments.
Anne Burrell Was Found Unresponsive In Her Brooklyn Home In June 2025
Burrell was a chef and an instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education. She later became known to audiences through various Food Network shows. These include Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Worst Cooks in America.
Tragically, Burrell died at her Brooklyn, New York, apartment on June 17, 2025. She was 55 at the time of her death, which was ruled a suicide.
A new police report has shared a few more details concerning Burrell’s last moments. As noted by People, she reportedly left a “suicidal” note that was later uncovered by cops.
The message was reportedly found in the home’s primary bedroom. While authorities didn’t share too many details about what Burrell had written, likely to honor her privacy, it was revealed that this note wasn’t the only message she left behind.
Burrell’s Family Also Released A Statement Following The Tragedy
“Suicidal” journal entries were also said to be found, resting on Burrell’s bed. It was also noted that the bed was “uncharacteristically” made.
As the outlet noted, the state of the bed actually altered Anne’s husband, Stuart Claxton, that something was off. He soon discovered his spouse was unresponsive in the bathroom. At the time, he attempted to revive her by “shaking” her and “slapping her face.” When this failed to work, he contacted emergency services. At the time, he believed Anne had only endured a cardiac arrest and later attempted to revive her with CPR.

Outside of the uncovered messages, Claxton claimed that his spouse showed no warning “signs that she would do something like this” and never discussed suicide. However, the medical examiner ruled that she had taken her own life around a month following her death.
Since her passing, as the outlet shared, Burrell’s family had also issued a statement in her memory. As it read, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend. Her smile lit up every room she entered.”
As the statement continued, “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.” In addition to Claxton and his son, Javier, Burrell is survived by her mother, Marlene, sister, Jane, brother, Ben, and Jane’s children.
