Following years of legal battles, Epic Games has brought Fortnite back to Google Play worldwide. The game had been available to sideload or stream, but now, fans around the globe can once again download a native Android version.
Fortnite was removed from both Google and Apple’s storefronts in 2020 after Epic introduced an in-app payment system that circumvented the rules of each marketplace. This prompted Epic to launch legal challenges against both companies. Last year, Epic and Google ultimately reached a settlement in what we later learned included a secret $800 million deal, and Google even lowered the revenue it takes from mobile apps and games.
However, Epic’s battle with Apple has been much more heated over the past several years. While legal battles have led to Epic restoring Fortnite to the App Store in the U.S. and Europe, it’s still not available in other markets, including Canada.
Fortnite‘s return to Google Play coincides with a new season that includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s The Foundation, the Ice King and Bugs Bunny (the last of which was once again voiced by Toronto’s Eric Bauza in new promotional material).
