Fox News personality Jesse Watters was recently part of a discussion related to another network. During the conversation, he also discussed the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie. Since then, some commenters on social media have taken issue with Watters’ comments.
The Nancy Guthrie Case Was Recently Brought Up On An Episode Of The Five
Watters is a political commentator known for his work with Fox News. For many, he became known for his work on The O’Reilly Factor, in which he hosted the “Watters World” segment.
Watters has also become known for hosting Jesse Watters Primetime, a role he’s had since 2022. He is also a co-host on The Five.
During a recent episode of The Five, one topic of discussion was the disappearance of Today alum Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy. The Guthrie matriarch had been reported missing earlier this month from her Arizona home.
During the episode, Watters and his colleague, Brian Kilmeade, appeared to imply that CNN wouldn’t cover the story of Savannah’s mother if an illegal immigrant was involved in the case. In particular, Watters shared, “Be an American and care about whoever passes away. Savannah Guthrie’s mother could have been abducted by an illegal alien.”
The Discussion Followed The White House Criticizing CNN’s Failure To Cover A Story
Watters continued, “What are they gonna say then? Is that gonna humanize the issue for them? I hope that’s not true, but that is a possibility.” Kilmeade responded, “They’ll stop covering it.”
These comments were made during a discussion about CNN. As discussed on the show, the network was criticized by the White House for failing to provide live coverage of a ceremony paying tribute to the families of Americans killed by illegal immigrants. In addition, Trump has also signed a proclamation designating February 22 as “National Angel Family Day.”

At this time, as previously reported, there are no suspects identified in the case, and the search is ongoing. According to The U.S. Express, some commenters on social media took issue with Watters’ comments.
Some wondered if Watters would have issues of his own if someone involved with Guthrie’s disappearance turned out to be a Trump supporter. As one person shared, “Will you defend him because blah blah blah heightened political rhetoric?”
Others also took issue with sharing speculations about the case like this. As another commenter wrote on X, “Hypotheticals about someone’s family don’t really elevate the debate.”
