Freedom Mobile has ended a long-running discount for customers who bring their own phones (BYOP), effectively raising prices on several of its plans by $10/mo.
The change will only impact new customers and those looking to change their plans. Anyone who already got the discount will be able to keep it as long as they remain on an eligible plan.
Still, the change is certainly disappointing, as it makes Freedom’s plans more expensive for new customers. Below is a list of the plans that no longer have the discount available, along with pricing:
- $50/100GB (was $40)
- $60/150GB (was $50)
- $70/200GB (was $60)
- $80/250GB (was $70)
While the discount is gone, Freedom’s plans still have the same features and bonuses as before. That means all of the above plans include 5G data, Canada/U.S./Mexico calling, texting, and data use, and a monthly allotment of Roam Beyond data for use in over 120 other destinations.
Freedom Mobile plans as of March 10, 2026.
The removal comes after Freedom rolled out refreshed plans with expanded global roaming options at the end of February. Moreover, Freedom just ended a huge sale that offered the 250GB plan for just $40/mo.
Freedom first started offering the BYOP discount during Boxing Week last year, then brought it back in mid-February. The carrier later bumped the discount from $9 to $10 after changing the price of some plans during its refresh.
While it sucks that the discount isn’t offered anymore, Freedom’s plans still offer great value, especially compared to those offered by the Big Three and their flanker brands.
However, there are other options out there if you want something like the $40/100GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan. Telus-owned Public Mobile, for example, still has that plan available, though it’s worth keeping in mind that Public tends to closely match Freedom’s pricing. I would expect Public will soon adjust its plans to match Freedom’s new pricing, so you’ll want to move quickly.
Another option is fellow Quebecor brand Fizz Mobile, which at the time of writing, had a $40/100GB 5G Canada-wide plan, or $42 for Canada/U.S.
