Freedom Mobile rolled out a significant revamp of its mobile plans, including new roaming options and more. But while the carrier touts affordability and value, the new plans come with some hidden price hikes.
On Feb. 24, Freedom announced its new ‘Total Freedom’ plans, a refresh of its plans that brings notable changes to Freedom’s ‘Roam Beyond’ system. Roam Beyond still includes roaming to over 120 destinations with each plan, but the new Total Freedom plans apply Roam Beyond differently than before.
The biggest changes are with Freedom’s cheaper plans, which no longer include one-time roaming data allotments. Freedom’s 10GB and 60GB plans still include 1GB and 5GB of roaming data, respectively, but these amounts now recur on a monthly basis. That brings Freedom’s two cheapest plans in line with the company’s other plans, which already offered monthly recurring roaming data allotments.
However, Freedom also adjusted the amount of roaming data included in its plans, decreasing it on some plans while keeping it the same on others. (It also increased the roaming data on its most expensive plan.) Further, Freedom raised plan prices by $1/mo across the board.
Freedom’s plans still include 5G+ data for use in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, as well as unlimited talk and text in Canada and Roam Beyond destinations. Here are the new plans, along with what has changed:
- $35/10GB CAN/US/MEX + 1GB Roam Beyond (previously $34/10GB + one-time 1GB Roam Beyond)
- $40/60GB CAN/US/MEX + 5GB Roam Beyond (previously $39/70GB + one-time 5GB Roam Beyond)
- $50/100GB CAN/US/MEX + 10GB Roam Beyond (previously $49/100GB + 15GB Roam Beyond)
- $60/150GB CAN/US/MEX + 20GB Roam Beyond (previously $59/150GB +25GB Roam Beyond)
- $70/200GB CAN/US/MEX + 30GB Roam Beyond (previously $69/200GB + 30GB Roam Beyond)
- $80/250GB CAN/US/MEX + 50GB Roam Beyond (previously $79/250GB + 35GB Roam Beyond)
- Freedom plans as of Feb. 24, 2026.
- Freedom BYOP plans as of Feb. 24, 2026.
It’s worth noting that Freedom is still offering a credit for customers who bring their own phone (BYOP) and sign up with the $50/mo plan or higher. It even increased the credit, going from $9 to $10, so the BYOP prices are still in line with what they were before the Total Freedom rollout. And as before, the BYOP credit will continue to apply as long as customers remain eligible. Similarly, Freedom is still offering its Price Freeze Promise on these plans, which guarantees that the price (prior to discounts and/or credits) won’t go up.
Additionally, because of the changes to roaming, all of Freedom’s plans now require a minimum three-month subscription. Previously, this was limited to plans with monthly recurring Roam Beyond data. Freedom’s fine print notes that it will charge a $30 fee to customers who change to another plan within three months of activating a Roam Beyond plan.
Overall, Freedom’s Total Freedom refresh seems like a generally good change, especially for people who frequently travel. The carrier continues to offer some of the best value on the market, with cheaper plans and roaming than anything we see from the Big Three carriers. That said, if you don’t travel often, Freedom’s plans got a little worse — they now cost slightly more, especially for the cheaper options that aren’t eligible for the BYOP credit.
The new Total Freedom plans are available for new and existing customers starting Feb. 24 online and in Freedom stores. Freedom continues to waive its $45 connection fee for online orders. You can check out all of Freedom’s new plans on its website.
