This Future app review was updated on January 31, 2026

Over 50% of people who sign up for gym memberships either go once a week or quit altogether. I wasn’t surprised when I learned this because a few years ago, I was one of them.

I joined a small local gym determined to stay active and get fit. It was close to my house and started off great. I went 4-5 times a week, attended classes, and kept up with it. But as time went on, I got bored with the routine and equipment.

The final straw? A personal trainer sat behind me on the treadmill eating spaghetti and meatballs while training another member. The smell wafted through the hot gym and hit me like a brick wall. I was done.

That was four years ago. Since then, I discovered Future, and I haven’t looked back.

In this Future app review, I’ll share how this app completely changed my approach to fitness over four years. I’ll take you through its features, my long-term experience, whether it’s truly worth the cost, and the surprising lessons I learned from staying motivated to exercise for 1,460+ days straight.

Future App Review: Your Own Personal Elite Coach, Daily Accountability

Since my gym disaster, I prefer working out at home. Whether at the gym or home, I struggled to stick to a routine and stay motivated long-term. But now there’s an app for that.

Future is a fitness and coaching app (available for Apple and Android) based on the science of what motivates humans to stay on track with fitness goals. It adds a personal touch that makes all the difference.

With Future, you get your own elite personal fitness coach who makes weekly custom workout plans designed just for you. But what sets Future apart is daily accountability. Your coach messages you with check-ins, tips, and feedback before and after workouts.

This constant communication energizes you to get workouts done and conquer fitness goals. Studies show we’re 95% more likely to reach our goals when someone holds us accountable.

What’s reassuring is that Future only hires the best fitness professionals. Over 80% of Future coaches have trained pro, collegiate, or Olympic athletes. 95%+ have a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, with many holding master’s degrees too.

Your Future workout program revolves 100% around your schedule, fitness goals, and equipment access. Whether you’re starting to exercise again or taking your training to the next level, Future adapts to you.

How The Future Fitness App Works: My Step-By-Step Experience

Step 1: Download Future & Select Your Coach

After taking a short quiz on the Future website or app about my fitness likes, dislikes, goals, and experience, Future matched me with 4 coaches. You can read their bios to learn about their fitness backgrounds and specialties.

I chose Coach Lori initially because she specialized in training women, ran an all-ages boxing gym, and believed in holistic wellness including meditation and quality sleep.

💡 Future App Tip: Instead of relying on Future’s quiz matches, scroll to the bottom of their website homepage and click “Coaches.” Browse all their coaches and pick who resonates with you. Click their bio, then select “Train With” to get started.

Step 2: Schedule Your Initial Coach Consultation

After choosing my coach, I scheduled a FaceTime meeting to discuss:

    • My fitness history and goals
    • How I like to work out and for how long
    • Any medical concerns or mobility issues
    • What equipment I have access to

This chat gives your coach the foundation to build your workouts. It’s also a great time to establish a connection with the person you’ll message daily. My meeting lasted about 25 minutes and made me comfortable with Lori and the Future experience.

If you’re wondering is online fitness coaching worth it, this personalized approach is exactly why the answer is yes.

Step 3: Your Custom Workouts Drop Weekly

After your meet-and-greet, your coach builds your fitness plan. Your new Future workouts for the week appear under the “Workouts” button. Select “Overview” to review each exercise with minutes, reps, and weights needed.

Each exercise includes example videos teaching proper form with audio and visual cues for motivation.

One thing I love is the motivating audio message my coach gives at the start of each workout. She also records tips and tricks throughout to keep me going and help with form.

💡 Future Tip: If you need form feedback, record yourself doing an exercise and send it to your coach. They’ll give pointers or confirmation you’re doing it correctly.

During workouts, you can manually record reps or adjust suggested weights. You can pause anytime for water breaks.

When you complete a workout, the app records all your stats (calories burned, etc.) and saves your progress. Your coach gets notified so they can monitor activity, give feedback, and adjust future workouts.

You can revisit any finished workout and restart it anytime. This flexibility is one of the benefits of online fitness training over traditional gyms.

How To View Your Future Workouts (Multiple Options)

    On Your Phone or Tablet

Once downloaded, view workouts directly from the app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

    Screen Mirroring to TV (Apple)

Use “Screen Mirroring” to AirPlay to a smart TV or Mac laptop:

    1. Swipe up while in the app to open control center
    2. Tap “Screen Mirroring”
    3. Select your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV
    4. Ensure both devices connect to the same Wi-Fi network
    5. Follow any prompts (I used my Roku, which asked for Apple ID)

The Screen Mirroring option is awesome for dedicated workout spaces with smart TVs. I thought I’d always prefer my big screen, but I actually enjoy using my phone for mat-based workouts. Mix it up and see what works best for you.

Daily Accountability: How Future Keeps You Motivated

Your personal coach isn’t just there to make awesome fitness programs and schedule workouts. What Future does best is keep you accountable with daily check-ins and reminders.

My coaches check in to see how I’m doing and get feedback on workouts. They ask if I need to adjust my schedule if I’m not feeling well or work gets crazy.

No matter what’s going on, when I hear the Future notification in the morning, it motivates me to move. I can’t let my coach down.

This daily connection is what helps people understand how to stay motivated to exercise long-term, not just for a few weeks.

Apple Watch Integration & Music Playlists

One of Future’s coolest features is Apple Watch integration to track:

    • Steps
    • Calories burned
    • Heart rate
    • Time working out

With a single tap, the watch lets you flow to the next exercise without reaching for your phone. This is convenient during mat exercises or when your phone rests on the ground.

The watch helps motivate you by setting movement and activity goals and earning badges when you reach them.

Future’s playlists are great, and the app integrates with Spotify and Pandora for your preferred music during workouts.

My Initial Thoughts on Future (Year One)

I read a review saying Future “kindly nags you to workout.” But for me, Future never felt like nagging. It felt like being steered toward healthy workout habits while having fun.

I enjoyed the whole Future experience. After the first week, I already felt stronger, had more energy, and my mood improved.

Whether the pandemic threw a wrench in your gym routine or you’re wanting to start and stay motivated, Future and your coach can help you crush fitness goals.

For me, the Future app and technology got me back into working out, but the personal connection with my coach made the huge difference compared to other things I tried.

At the end of the day, the decision to work out is still yours. Future just figured out the best way to keep people like me on track.

My First 90 Days: 50+ Workouts, 17,000 Calories Burned

I can’t believe it, but at 90 days I officially completed 50 workouts with Future! Am I still loving my experience? Yes, 100%! Would I change anything? At the moment, no.

I feel like I’m finally on a positive track with my fitness journey. I’m riding the wave of letting my coach guide me, with no intention of slowing down.

Using Future has me in love with fitness and working out again, for good. I love seeing that checkmark next to a completed workout. The progress I’ve made is so much more than I could accomplish alone.

I went from insanely sore after my first week (barely able to walk, thinking “what have I gotten myself into?”) to diving into workouts with everything I have and being excited about it.

    My 90-Day Results:

    • Lost 4 pounds
    • Lifting more weight than ever
    • Gained muscle
    • Feel much stronger

What I Learned After 55+ Future Workouts

I Now Enjoy Exercises I Used To Avoid

Fact: I used to hate even the thought of weight lifting at home. And lunges? No way.

Going on this fitness journey, I decided I’d try whatever was thrown my way. At least for a little while. My coach included both weights and lunges in all their magnificent forms.

Over 3 months, I committed to doing the work. I watched myself get stronger and my balance improve. I became more confident with exercises I previously hated and saw the benefits.

Something crazy happened: I look forward to weights and don’t fear those evil lunges anymore. Instead, I’m set on getting better and better.

Of course, if you absolutely hate a certain exercise, your coach won’t include it in your workout. But I decided to keep an open mind and give all exercises a try. I’m so glad I did!

My Coach Keeps Me Motivated Even When I’m Not Loving Life

Have I woken up every morning since starting Future absolutely dying to workout? I’m only human, and the answer is no.

Some days you’re stressed, have too much work, feel tired, or don’t feel your best. Chilling on the couch is a whole lot more appealing.

While I haven’t turned into an exercise-obsessed robot, getting motivating messages first thing in the morning from my coach mentally prepares me to get my workout done no matter how I feel.

This is one of the most incredible benefits of Future versus doing it alone. When you have to make excuses to another person instead of just yourself about why you can’t work out, you realize how lame they usually are. It gets embarrassing.

Rather than feel like a failure, it’s easier to work out and get that checkmark for a completed workout. Afterward, you feel like you’ve accomplished something. It’s a great feeling.

You’ll never feel sorry for working out. You’ll only regret not doing it in the first place.

I Feel More Energetic And Confident

Working out religiously for 90 days gave me more energy. I’m also happy with positive changes in my body.

My legs are getting more toned. My arms, which I always struggled with, are more defined than ever. I lost 4 pounds since starting, fueling my motivation to keep working out.

Since I have more energy, I get more done around the house and am more productive at work. Understanding how exercise improves mood made these benefits make sense. Research from Harvard Medical School confirms that regular physical activity can improve symptoms of mild to moderate depression and anxiety.

Future Made Fitness Part Of My Routine, Not A Chore

By using Future, I finally feel focused on my fitness goals now that exercise is part of my daily routine.

I actually look forward to workouts as time to decompress and destress while burning calories. This might not be a big deal for some people, but this has been huge for me.

The Apple Watch Makes A Big Difference

You don’t need an Apple Watch to work out with Future, but I’ve found it gives even more motivation to stay active in wearable form.

    Daily, I love:

    • Logging my steps
    • Seeing calories burned
    • Keeping track of activity
    • Checking my heart rate
    • Earning badges when reaching goals

It’s also convenient during workouts (especially floor routines) when you’re ready to advance to the next exercise, adjust weights, or if your phone is out of reach.

Having Someone To Talk Fitness With Helps

Having my coach made all the difference. Your family and friends might notice the new you, but they might not want to know the nitty-gritty.

I love that I can talk shop and ask my coach health or fitness questions anytime. My coaches also share healthy lifestyle tips that serve as great reminders and keep me on top of my game.

I’m Ready To Set More Defined Fitness Goals

When I first started Future, my only real goal was to shed a few pounds, tone up, and get regularly active again.

Now that I accomplished that, I can see what sticking with a fitness routine can really do. I’m ready to go further. I know if I want to get leaner and stronger, working on my eating habits is my next task. My Future coach is there to help me crush it.

My 4-Year Update: 1,000+ Workouts & What I’ve Actually Learned

Four Years. Over 1,000 Workouts. More Than 200,000 Calories Burned.

When I made that first year video review, I honestly thought Future would be a temporary tool to get back in shape. I figured I’d use it for a few months, build some habits, then cancel and maintain on my own. I was wrong. Four years later, I’m still here, still working out 4-5 days per week, and I have zero plans to stop.

The Biggest Difference Between Year 1 and Year 4

    Year 1 Year 4
Obsessed with metrics (every pound, every calorie) Motivated by consistency (it’s just what I do now)
Motivated by results Motivated by maintaining what I’ve built
Tracking weight constantly Don’t track weight anymore
Exercise felt like an achievement Exercise feels like brushing my teeth

The transformation isn’t just physical. It’s mental. Future helped me become someone who exercises, not someone who tries to exercise.

Yes, I’ve Gone Off The Rails (And That’s Okay)

Let’s be honest. Over four years, I’ve:

    • Completely abandoned my diet multiple times
    • Taken short breaks from working out
    • Had weeks where I only completed 2 workouts instead of 5
    • Dealt with injuries from overworking
    • Questioned whether I should keep paying for Future

Here’s what I learned: having a Future coach gets you right back on track.

When I fell off the wagon with my diet, my coach didn’t lecture me. She adjusted my workouts to compensate and kept me moving. When I overworked and had setbacks, we switched to active recovery and worked around them.

The hardest part of fitness isn’t starting. It’s restarting after you stop. Future makes restarting effortless because your coach is still there, still checking in, still believing in you.

I’ve Worked With Multiple Coaches (And You Should Too)

I’m no longer with Coach Lori. She went on to much bigger and better things, and I’m happy for her.

Since then, I’ve worked with a few more coaches. Here’s the coolest part about Future: you can change coaches until you find your ideal match for the goals you want to achieve at that point.

Need someone who’s more of a drill sergeant to get you back on track?

    Switch coaches.

Want more of a workout buddy who just keeps you motivated and checks in regularly?

    Switch coaches.

My advice? Don’t be afraid to switch it up. Different phases of your fitness journey need different types of support.

What Actually Keeps Me Motivated After 4 Years

People ask me all the time: “How do you stay motivated for four years?”

The truth? It’s simply easier to maintain your fitness level once you’re in a good spot than to start over from scratch.

If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. Seriously.

I learned this the hard way during one of my breaks. After just two weeks off, I felt sluggish. My energy dropped. My mood suffered. Going back felt harder than just maintaining the routine.

Now I work out because not working out feels worse.

    My Workouts Have Completely Evolved

What I Did in Year 1 What I Do Now
Mostly bodyweight exercises Weights, yoga, Pilates, boxing, hiking
Light weights (I was out of shape) Heavy lifting and diverse training
Focused on cardio Mix of strength, flexibility, and cardio
Intimidated by new exercises Excited to try new challenges

The beauty of Future is that your workouts evolve with you. As I got stronger, my coaches pushed me further. As my interests changed, they adapted.

When I got bored with strength training, my coach added boxing. When I needed stress relief, she programmed yoga and Pilates. When I wanted outdoor workouts, she created hiking and walking programs.

This is something you can’t get from YouTube videos or generic fitness apps. Your program grows with you.

The App Has Stayed Reliable and Consistent

Over four years, I’ve seen fitness apps come and go. I’ve watched companies pivot, apps crash, and features disappear.

    See also

    Future? It’s been rock solid.

What I love about the app is that it’s:

    • Always reliable
    • Easy to use
    • Consistent

They added Android support, which is huge. But mostly, they focused on keeping what works working instead of adding flashy features nobody needs.

In 2026, that reliability is more valuable than ever.

Yes, Prices Went Up (But It’s Still Worth It)

Prices went up a bit from when I started. Even at $199 per month, it’s still the highest quality trainers you’ll get at that rate on a daily basis.

    Breaking it down:

    • $199/month = $6.63 per day
    • One in-person trainer session = $60-100
    • Future = unlimited daily access to elite coaches

I’ve read some reviews saying coaches have a lot of clients. In my experience, I’ve always felt like they’re responsive and dedicated to me. Response times are quick, feedback is personalized, and check-ins are genuine.

Would I Recommend Future After 4 Years?

Absolutely, especially if you’re starting on a fitness journey.

With the intro rate and 30-day money-back guarantee, there’s nothing to lose.

    Future is Perfect For:

    • People who struggle with consistency (like I did)
    • Busy professionals who need flexible workout times
    • Anyone intimidated by gyms or in-person trainers
    • People who’ve tried and quit other programs
    • Those who need accountability to stay on track

Future isn’t for everyone. If you’re already super motivated, love your gym routine, and don’t need external accountability, you probably don’t need it.

But if you’ve tried everything else and nothing stuck? Give Future a try. It might just change your life like it changed mine.

The Surprising Truth About 4 Years With Future

I started Future thinking it would help me lose weight and get in shape.

What I didn’t expect was that it would fundamentally change my relationship with exercise and my own body.

I’m proof that consistency works. Four years later, I’m stronger, healthier, and more confident than I’ve ever been. Not because I had perfect discipline or incredible willpower.

Because I had a coach who showed up for me every single day, even on days I didn’t show up for myself.

That’s the real magic of Future.

Future App Video Review: One-Year Update!

I’ve completed over 250 workouts with Future and burned more than 54,000 calories! 😀

Final Thoughts: Is Future Fitness App Worth It After 4 Years?

I’ve been truly loving my experience with Future and feel like it’s definitely worth trying for anyone who wants to:

    • Start working out
    • Needs that extra daily push
    • Wants a stress-free way to take fitness to a new level with an expert coach

I’ve never been so excited to keep working out, tackling fitness goals I never dreamed of accomplishing, and seeing where Future and my coaches will take me.

Whether you’re trying to lose weight for your wedding, maintain holiday fitness, or just establish a sustainable routine, Future adapts to your life.

    Future FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What digital platform(s) is Future available on?

Update: As of May 2025, Future App is available for both Android and iPhone users!

This is exciting news because Future was originally only available for iOS.

Future integrates with the Apple Watch (compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 and newer). Android capabilities are developing, so stay tuned for updates.

    Is an Apple Watch required?

No. While the Apple Watch integrates with Future and enhances workouts, it isn’t required to use the app.

The benefit of using an Apple Watch is that it adds another accountability factor. The watch tracks your movements, heart rate, workout length, and calories burned.

That data is sent to your coach so they can see how hard you’re working and how quickly you recover. Improvements over time indicate you’re getting more fit!

On its own, the watch can also track steps and calories burned throughout the day, which helps with weight loss goals.

Do you need any special fitness equipment?

No! Your Future fitness coach doesn’t need you to have anything special to make an effective workout plan.

Whatever you do have access to (dumbbells, gym equipment, yoga ball, jump rope, etc.) can be incorporated into your workouts.

When you sign up, you’ll be asked what equipment you have so your coach knows when making your program.

Is a gym membership needed for Future Fitness App?

Since you don’t need any special equipment for Future, you also don’t need a gym membership.

If you do have a membership, your Future trainer can make a great exercise program that maximizes your time there and gets you comfortable using all available equipment.

They’ll also introduce you to a variety of effective exercises you probably never would have done on your own.

What fitness level is the Future app best for?

Any! Future fitness coaches have trained beginners to advanced athletes and Olympians, with everyone in between. It can help ANYONE take their fitness to the next level.

How do you choose a Future coach?

Future will pair you with a few coach choices they think might match you best based on answers from their short sign-up quiz.

You can go with one of their suggestions, or visit their trainer page where you can read through trainer bios and choose a coach on your own.

To narrow down choices, coaches can be filtered according to:

    • Style (motivating, high-energy, supportive, etc.)
    • Training expertise (general strength training, bodybuilding, prenatal and postnatal, limitations, weight loss, etc.)
    • Sports focus
    • Languages spoken

How many days a week do you have to work out?

The choice is yours, but working out 3-5 days a week is recommended. Your coach can help guide you according to your fitness goals.

How is Future Fitness App rated?

As of January 2026, Future has a 4.9 out of 5.0 in the Apple store based on over 9,400 reviews!

Does Future Fitness App have a monthly fee?

Yes. Future’s monthly fee is $199 and works out to under $7 a day. It might sound high, but it’s a bargain compared to in-person training.

Can you cancel Future Fitness App anytime?

Yes! Unlike a gym membership, with Future you don’t have to commit and can cancel anytime. The refund process is easy too.

To cancel your subscription through the app, just go to: Profile > Account > Update Membership > Cancel Subscription.

Does Future offer a free trial?

Future currently does not offer a free trial. With our link, you can get a limited time deal where your first month of Future is 65% OFF!
