Google is bringing some major updates to Chrome for macOS, Windows and Chromebook Plus devices. This new Gemini in Chrome is built on Gemini 3, which will let users multitask across the web with a new side panel. The side panel offers deeper integrations across its most popular Google Apps to help users be more productive, help with multi-step workflows with the new auto browse, and get even more contextually relevant functionality with Personal Intelligence.
The Gemini side panel experience in Chrome pretty much works like having the Assistant always at your side. You can always access this from no matter what tab you’re in. Gemini in Chrome lets users browse easily and access Gemini without having to leave the page. You can even use Gemini in Chrome to create images powered by Nano Banana. Google gives the example of changing the colour of a room in a picture or turning on-screen data into an infographic.
With Connected Apps integration like Gmail, you can get Gemini to easily send an email from the side tab, search for directions in Maps or even ask about YouTube videos.
If you have Gemini AI Pro or Ultra, Google is introducing auto browse, a new agentic experience that handles chores on your behalf. You can figure out which hotel to stay in, find different flight options and costs, shop for you, schedule appointments, collect tax documents, manage subscriptions, and more. You can give auto-browse access to Google Password Manager as well, so it can log in to what you want it to. However, auto browse is also designed to pause and ask for confirmation before making a purchase or posting on social media.
And Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app will let Chrome remember context from previous Gemini queries. Personal Intelligence in Gemini is coming in the next few months.
Gemini in Chrome is available for users in the U.S., and auto browse is available in the U.S. for Google AI Pro and Ultra customers. We’ve reached out to Google for Canadian-specific details.
