Fans have followed meteorologist Sam Champion’s health stories for years. Recently, he had a few health updates for fans, shared straight from the hospital. The post has also gotten a few reactions from some of his colleagues.
Sam Champion Shared A Photo From Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital
Champion is a weather anchor known for working with a number of outlets. Previously, he hosted programs with The Weather Channel, including AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters and 23.5 Degrees With Sam Champion.
However, many know Champion best through his work with Good Morning America. First joining the program in the mid-2000s, he left around 2013, returning in 2018 as a substitute for Ginger Zee, making his return to ABC the following year.
Back in October 2024, Champion underwent Mohs surgery to remove a nodular basal cell carcinoma from under his right eye. Since then, he shared another health update with fans on social media.
In a post on Instagram, Champion could be seen in a hospital gown while lying in a bed. Seeming to be in good spirits, he smiled and waved at the camera as his picture was being taken. His spouse, Rubem Robierb, was also tagged in the post.
As Champion explained in a caption, “Many of you know I had a nuclear stress test last Thursday. And we found some things that needed to be taken care of. So, today, I went [into] the cardiac catheterization laboratory…. and we took care of it. Thanks to these procedures. I am well and expected to make a full recovery.”
A Few Other Broadcast Journalists Shared Their Reactions To The Story
Champion also thanked Dr. Lerakis, Dr. Sharma, and the team of nurses at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in New York. He shared that, thanks to their help, he is expected to make a full recovery.
Champion also shared a similar health update during a recent Instagram Story. This time, featuring a close-up of his face while lying on the hospital bed, he captioned the post, “After: A little work, then back to normal.”

Taking to the comments, fans and even colleagues shared their reactions to the post. Fellow meteorologist Dani Beckstrom wrote, “I need to visit the cardiac care center after seeing this. So glad you are okay. We need you around for 26385926385 more years.” Sam himself also wrote, “Love you, Dani!” as a response.
Good Morning America alum Robin Roberts also wrote, “You know [we’re] here if you need anything at all! Speedy recovery on the way!”
