Season Two of The Golden Bachelor premiered Monday evening. The former NFL star-turned-reality star has faced massive backlash from fans over his selection as the Golden Bachelor. An insider close to production recently revealed the discontent goes beyond the fans. Apparently, Owens has earned a reputation as being “Difficult” to work with. Keep reading to find out more.
Mel Owens’ Behavior Earns Him A Bad Reputation
The new leading man for The Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens, has faced harsh criticism for the comments he has made. Many fans do not support him as the choice for the show’s lead. Mel inherited the title from former Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner, who found love with Theresa Nist during Season One. Turner was a fan favorite. However, not everything is golden for Mel. An insider close to production revealed that producers are finding it very difficult to work with the NFL star. The source revealed that he struggles to “Go with the flow.” In addition, they added that “Mel was more difficult to work with than Gerry.”
The Golden Bachelor insider explained that Gerry Turner was very easy-going. In addition, he was grateful to everyone in production for everything, even the little stuff. Gerry often just went along with what producers needed from him. In contrast, Mel Owens has been “More outspoken with his demands.” The insider explained that the NFL star “Isn’t as go with the flow or happy-go-lucky as Gerry.” The source also revealed that producers feel they have to keep a “close eye” after his comments about the women contestants before filming even began.
Mel Owens’ Slips Up On Good Morning America
In addition to social media backlash after saying he would “cut” any female contestants 60 or older, Golden Bachelor Mel Owens slipped up on Good Morning America. The NFL star stated that he was nervous about how fans would perceive him after his comments. However he continued to share that he had a great time on the show. Good Morning America hosts Lara Spencer and Sam Champion pushed Mel for details on what happens during Season Two.

Lara and Sam pushed Owens asking him “Can you just give us a little secret wink if you found love?” Owens responded “You never know,” before Lara called him out on his telling facial expression. Mel Owens reaction revealed that he did find love with one of the two dozen female contestants. The combination of his behavior while filming and during press interviews has earned Owens a reputation for being difficult to work with. However the insider did say that:
“Overall, producers are happy with how the season turned out. Everyone should be happy with it, but the show is polarizing, so you can’t please them all. The ladies are the real stars of the season, and this will be a case where the contestants outshine the lead.”

What do you thing of Mel Owens getting a reputation as being difficult? Let us know in the comments. Golden Bachelor airs on ABC Wednesday’s at 8 PM CST.
