Gran Hotel Miramar, Malaga, Spain
VIP Hotel Guests
Over the years many other VIPs followed in their footsteps. Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner and Ernest Hemingway were some of the guests. After a golden period in the hotel, times changed in Spain. The hotel became a War Hospital during the Spanish Civil war.
This is a blessing as this decision to use the building as a hospital ensured that it still stands today. More recently the building was a Courthouse, known as Palacio de la Justicia up to 2007.
Hoteles Santos
Acquired by the Spanish company Hotels Santos this reopened as a hotel in 2016. Although the entire refurbishment project was not completed until this Autumn. The glamourous opening party hosted 1400 guests. I was thrilled to be on the guest list and attend this important presentation.
Rooms at Gran Hotel Miramar
The hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of The World collection.
As you would expect from a 5* Gran Luxe hotel the rooms are comfortable, spacious and exquisitely designed.
The details such as the hairdryer inside a hidden drawer ensure that the elegance of the space does not affect the practicalities.
Winter Sunshine in Malaga
With an ideal location on the Malaga seafront its a great all year round destination.
I visited in November and although evenings were cooler during the day sunshine was warm. Breakfast outdoors in the sunshine was a welcome tonic for late autumn.
As the outdoor pool is heated to maintain a constant temperature, as long as you have a fluffy towel or robe ready you can swim all year round.
Suites & Deluxe Rooms
Room categories at the hotel are Premier, Deluxe and Suites. The interior designs vary between Mediterranean, Andalusí and Classic styles.
Hotel Interiors
I found that the Mediterranean and Andalusian styled interiors more contemporary. Whereas the classic rooms fit well with the architectural style of the hotel.
Botanic Garden Spa
Facilities and Services at the hotel include:

- Two Outdoor pools (heated in winter)
- Gym
- Covered Parking with Valet service
- Concierge
- Free Wifi
I did enjoy a few hours in the Spa during my stay.
Dining with Seaviews
The dining options at the hotel offer the Príncipe de Asturias restaurant by chef Diego Nicás. Casual dining at the ground floor café offers sea views and less formal eats.
Breakfast is served Poolside or inside the Mediterranean restaurant (seen above). The selection is carefully displayed.
My highlights was the egg station to get your own personalised omelette. I also loved to see an entire fresh honeycomb on display.
Rooftop drinks
The roof terrace/chillout has stunning sea views and is fabulous to watch the sunset from up high. (Rooftop is for Adults only)
Looking out over Malagueta beach and towards the port of Malaga, its a great vantage point to enjoy while you stay.
Seaside stroll
Walking from the hotel towards Malaga city centre. I took the route along the Malagueta beach, past the Royal Nautical Club, onto Muelle Uno. To wander along this seafront stretch and see the sunset over the city of Malaga was a perfect end the day.
