Held. (featuring members of the Sleeping and Coheed and Cambria) have released “CONSTANT TENSION,” the second single from their debut LP, GREY, out May 15 via MNRK HEAVY. The single, which follows last month’s “NEW YOU ANTHEM” with My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero, is about the mental tug-of-war of trying to accept yourself while constantly feeling like you’re failing.
“‘CONSTANT TENSION’ stems from an everlasting battle within myself to embrace who I am via internal reflection,” vocalist/guitarist Douglas Robinson says. “It’s all of my strengths fighting against all of my weaknesses. There is a ‘constant tension,’ a violent push and pull within my mind every single day. I let myself down so much, to the point where I often feel like I have to somewhat abandon myself and step outside to try and see the bigger picture, but the hurt inside of me pulls me back into my own thoughts. I go completely blank to try and focus, which oddly enough resorts to more tension, and more clouded thoughts. It feels like an endless cycle. The lyrics to ‘CONSTANT TENSION’ mirror all of this.”

The new song includes a video directed by Adam Thomson that continues the narrative first established in “NEW YOU ANTHEM,” offering a sci-fi-inspired extension that reflects the core themes of GREY. The supergroup, rounded out by the Sleeping’s vocalist Robinson and bassist Salvatore Mignano, plus Coheed and Cambria drummer Josh Eppard, will host a GREY listening party on Thursday (March 5), from 7-10 p.m. at Selva in Brooklyn. Attendees have the chance to receive a limited, signed poster by the band marking their first public appearance.
