HGTV star recently came under fire after she appeared to use a racial slur during a viral video, impacting her status with the network. Since then, sources have recently opened up about the story. According to these claims, issues might have been going on behind the scenes for quite some time.
HGTV Recently Announced That Rehab Addict Was Cancelled The Day It Was Set To Return
Curtis was previously the host of Rehab Addict. Throughout her work, Curtis had helped preserve and restore homes in Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio.
The series, which debuted in 2010, was set to return on Wednesday after going on hiatus back in July 2025. At the time, Curtis claimed that she wanted the remaining episodes recut for a later release.
However, on February 11, 2026, HGTV announced that Curtis was fired from the network and that the new episodes had been pulled. This came out after a video was released that appeared to have her say “fart n*****” while filming for the show. Curtis has since issued an apology concerning the story. The series has also since been removed from HBO Max and Discovery+.
One Source Claimed That There Were Issues As Far Back As 2021
It was previously shared that Curtis made an “executive decision” to pause the remaining episodes. However, sources recently claimed that she didn’t have as much control as it appeared.
Speaking with The Daily Mail, a source claimed that the reported racial outburst was the “final straw.” They claimed that HGTV put a pin in the ninth season last summer and it was the network’s decision, not Nicole’s.

The source added, “It’s definitely been a power struggle between Nicole and HGTV, and there have been a lot of conflicts. She can’t meet deadlines. She would always push and push and push to the last minute.” According to the outlet, Curtis was also described as being a “nightmare” to work with on the show.
Insiders also claimed that one camera worker walked off the set due to Curtis’ behavior, noting that other crew members voiced similar sentiments. However, the sources did try to defend Curtis in one respect. In spite of the recent controversy, an insider denied that Curtis was a racist.
Another insider claimed that things already took a turn in 2021. It was claimed that Curtis caused issues when she tried to take more control of the show’s operations after starting her own production company, Porte Cochere Production. The added, “Since she decided to have her own production company and take over production, she’s been handling contracts to contractors, builders, crew, those who work with her on the show, and she hasn’t handled them well.”
