Battling cancer is one of the hardest fights of your life. Fighting as a public figure with all eyes on you makes it even worse. Katie Thurston from ABC’s Bachelor Nation is one of many publicly battling cancer. Now, an HGTV star revealed the truth about the ‘devastating’ cancer rumors surrounding her.
HGTV Star Reveals Truth About ‘Devastating’ Cancer Rumors
It used to be trendy to spread fake death rumors about celebrities. Once you’ve had a death hoax circulate online, you know you’ve made it. But with the rise of social media and AI, celebrities are more likely to face rumors that they are dying or near death. One HGTV star found themselves at the center of a “devastating” cancer rumor.
Hilary Farr is one of the most popular stars on the renovation network. The British-Canadian interior designer starred on Love It or List It for years before stepping back from the show in 2023. The network launched Tough Love With Hilary Farr in 2021. The show filmed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The show returned for a second season in 2023. However, the network hasn’t officially renewed or canceled the renovation show.
Hilary Farr secretly battled breast cancer in 2014. She’s been in remission for years, but fans were devastated to see posts circulate online that claimed the cancer had returned and the interior designer was near death.

The HGTV star took to social media to address the photos of her in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask on. “I’m alive. Very, very, very much so alive and well, I’m happy to say,” Hilary Farr assured her fans. She went on to clarify that the photos circulating online were AI.
“I hope none of you would really take any of this seriously and realize it is just fake beyond words,” she added.
Fans React To Hurtful Fake News Story
Unfortunately, some of her fans were fooled by the AI-generated photos. However, they were happy to find out that it was fake news.
- “Glad you are addressing this AI stuff. Deception is growing strong in America. Sad that we can’t trust anything anymore.”
- “I was about to be sad. So glad to see you alive and well”
- “Very happy that its fake news. AI is driving everyone crazy. It definitely has gotten out of hand.”
- “It’s sad that you have to deal with the crazies out there.”
- “That’s too bad someone made this up using AI! I’m glad you are still here!”
- “This must be so annoying for you! Glad you’re doing well. You look fabulous, as always.”
The Love It or List It star looked healthy and well in the video address. She revealed earlier this year that she was embracing her graying hair. Tell us in the comments your tricks for spotting AI videos and photos online.
