Hilary Duff Talks Lindsay Lohan Feud Amid ‘Toxic Mom Group’

Hilary Duff is holding nothing back as she reflects on some of her most famous feuds.

The Disney alum recently shed more light on the “toxic mom group” drama that took the internet by storm early this year, thanks to Ashley Tisdale.

Hilary Duff was speculated to be among the group that Ashley Tisdale wrote about in a bombshell essay. Besides the “High School Musical” actress, the singer also weighed in on her 2000s drama with Lindsay Lohan.

Duff poured her heart out on the February 25 episode of Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast. The over-an-hour interview, shared on YouTube, captured the pair discussing topics ranging from Duff’s rise to fame to her famous feuds.

When Cooper asked about the viral “toxic mom group” essay penned by fellow Disney alum, Tisdale, Duff admitted the situation was heartbreaking. “I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad. I was, like, pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just, like, sad,” the entertainer shared.

Duff explained that she was “so lucky” to have many groups of friends, especially after embracing motherhood. She noted that her core inner circle has been with her for at least 10 to 20 years, so it broke her heart to read something that was “not true” about them.

When Cooper pointed out that Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, had stirred the pot with his reaction to the incident, Duff couldn’t help but laugh. She confirmed that she did not know Koma would call out Tisdale on his Instagram Story, saying:

“Honestly, everything he does makes me laugh. So I was like, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God.’“

“But I also don’t censor him, and I don’t tell him what he can and can’t post. He is so, like, fierce for me, and, like, I love him for that,” Duff added. Koma had defended his wife by recreating Tisdale’s cover for The Cut alongside biting words that read:

“When You’re The Most Self-Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers.”

Duff noted that she did not want to give the mom group drama any more spotlight after Cooper asked if there was anything about the incident that she would like to clarify. The actress went on to recall how the incident occurred at the “craziest time” of her life.

According to Duff, the essay’s timing wasn’t ideal, and she “felt used.” Cooper asked if she believed that Tisdale’s essay wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t been planning her return to the spotlight, and Duff responded with a knowing smile and a “that’s it” gesture with her finger.

Earlier in the interview, Duff opened up about one of her most famous feuds during her teenage years. She revealed that she and Lindsay Lohan had butted heads in the past over their relationship with the late Aaron Carter.

On her feud with Lohan, Duff confessed that she had intentionally crashed the latter’s “Freaky Friday” movie premiere. “I was a teenager,” she said of her behavior, noting that Lohan was her “nemesis” at the time.

Lohan got her revenge months later when she crashed the premiere of Duff’s “Cheaper by the Dozen” movie, an outcome she didn’t find surprising. However, Duff implied that her appearance at Lohan’s movie premiere was influenced by a third party.

According to Duff, Chad Michael Murray had invited her to the event, and she agreed, without giving it much thought. As for why she and Lohan had clashed over Carter, Duff explained that it was the time before social media, so it was hard to know who was dating whom.

Duff stressed that she no longer cared about the past as she and Lohan had settled their differences years earlier. She recalled the latter approached her at a club and asked if they were good, to which Duff confirmed that there was no bad blood between them.

As stated, the drama between the Disney alums stemmed from their love triangle with the late Carter. The singer once confessed that he had started dating Duff first, but had grown bored after a year and a half and eventually moved on with Lohan.

However, Buzzfeed reported that he dated Lohan for a few months in 2003 before getting bored. His status with Duff at the time was ambiguous, but they eventually ended things after Carter allegedly cheated on her with someone else.
