Hilary Duff Talks Toxic Mom Group Claims From Ashley Tisdale

Hilary Duff is doubling down on her take of Ashley Tisdale’s claims in a new interview. Despite previously slamming the allegations, Duff once again made it clear that the claims against her are “not true.” Earlier this year, Tisdale sparked an online uproar when she wrote an essay exposing what she called a “toxic mom group” that made her feel excluded.

During an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday, February 25, Hilary Duff addressed the viral essay from Ashley Tisdale, titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group,” in which Duff was essentially labeled as a mean girl.

“I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad,” the former Disney star said. “I was, like, pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just, like, sad.”

“I think I just was like, ‘Woah,’” Duff recalled of her initial reaction to the essay. “It sucks to read something that’s, like, not true. And it sucks on behalf of, like, six women in all of their lives.”

The actress also shared that the release of Tisdale’s essay “came at the craziest time where I was like, the timing felt not great and I felt used.”

As she continued addressing the drama, Duff also revealed her reaction to her husband, Matthew Koma, publicly supporting her.

Koma called out Tisdale for writing the essay by responding to her essay headline with one of his own, which read:  “When You’re The Most Self-Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers.”

“Honestly, everything he does makes me laugh,” Duff told “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper. “So I was like, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God.’ But I also don’t censor him, and I don’t tell him what he can and can’t post. He is so, like, fierce for me, and, like, I love him for that.”

In an exclusive interview with the Los Angeles Times on February 21, Duff addressed the allegations for the first time and shut down Tisdale’s claims.

“This is not new for me,” she told the outlet about being involved in Hollywood rumors. “I’ve had this since I was maybe 15 and starting to get followed around by paparazzi.”

“Everything starts getting documented and everyone knows my life and all the players in it. So the stories that get news pickup — it’s not what happens to a normal person who maybe became an actor as an adult,” Duff continued.

The “Younger” star explained that social media has heightened the drama by spreading misinformation.

“It’s hard because you’re like, ‘Wait, whoa, that person kind of got it right,’ and ‘Whoa that person doesn’t know what they’re talking about,’” the actress said. “I saw something that was like, ‘None of the moms at school actually like her and neither do the teachers,’ and I was like, ‘First of all… By the way, the women at school are lovely and I’m obsessed with all of them.”

Speaking in Duff’s February 2026 Glamour cover story, Moore shared insight into their tight-knit friendship.

“I feel exceedingly lucky that my kids happen to spend time with people that I feel like our values are aligned with,” Moore told the outlet. “The friends that I’ve made since becoming a parent are some of the deeper, more surprising friendships I’ve found as an adult.”

The two former teen stars knew each other in the early days of fame, but didn’t become close until 2018, when they both became moms and embarked on a new era in their careers.

Duff’s first album in 10 years, “luck…or something,” was released on February 20, and on the album, she addresses her severely strained relationship with her older sister, actress Haylie Duff.

In an interview with “CBS Mornings” the day the project was released, Duff revealed that being estranged from her sister is “lonely.”

“It’s definitely about my sister and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence,” she said of the song “We Don’t Talk” from the album. “It’s not having my sister in my life at the moment, and I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record.”
