At Mobile World Congress Honor unveiled several devices, and even a dancing robot, but for this article, we’ll focus on the two handsets the Chinese phone maker revealed –The Robot Phone and the Magic V6.
Starting with the robot, the Honor Robot Phone has a gimbal-stabilized camera that pops out from the rear of the device. The camera sports. 200MP sensor and can capture smooth panoramic shots. When you’re done using the camera, it tucks itself back into the back of the phone and is protected by a sliding glass cover.
However, what’s more interesting isn’t the camera and its mechanism (we’ve seen cameras pop out of phones before), but it’s the multimodal AI features that the gimbal camera provides. The Honor Robot Phone can “see” out of this camera, and can provide multimodal answers to your questions, like “what’s this structure?” and can provide real-time wardrobe solutions. You can also make the camera nod shake its head. In a video showing off the phone, the Robot Phone is even dancing with the user, and knows when you want to take a picture without needing a prompt. It seems to be interacting with the world around it, which is super strange for your phone. .
The Honor Robot Phone is confirmed to launch in China in the second half of this year, but it’s unclear if it’ll launch globally, and it definitely won’t come to Canada. But it’s an interesting premise, and curious if other companies are taking notes.
The other Honor handset is the slimmest foldable on the market. When the Honor Magic V6 is closed it comes in at 8.75mm and offers a 6.52-inch display. When unfolded you’ll be greeted to the 4-inch thick, 7.95-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also sports a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage.
Camera-wise you’ll see the 50MP primary shooter, 64MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and 50-megapixel ultrawide. It also has two selfie shooters with 20-megapixel sensors and f/2.2 apertures.
There’s also a 6,660mAh battery, which is huge for a foldable phone. It also has 80W wired charging and 66W wireless.
While Honor doesn’t launch its devices in Canada, it’s worth noting what else is around the world. This is the year of foldables with Samsung and Google definitely releasing new foldables this year, with Motorola showcasing its first-ever foldable scheduled for later this year, and Apple likely also launching its first folding phone.
