In true Toronto sports fashion, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Blue Jays have forced the American League Championship Series (ALCS) to Game 7.
The decisive winner-take-all matchup is scheduled for today, Monday, October 20, 2024, at the Rogers Centre here in Toronto, Ontario. The start time is at 8:08 p.m. at the Rogers Centre.
George Kirby is getting the start for the Seattle Mariners. Kirby is looking to rebound after his last postseason appearance, where he surrendered eight runs in game three of the ALCS, in which Seattle lost 13-4 (ouch). Seattle has avoided pitching him on the road this season, as all three of his starts so far have come at home in Seattle. However, with no other options, Seattle is hoping that he keeps the game close, so that the Mariners’ offence can punch their ticket to the ‘Fall Classic’.
The Blue Jays will be going with Shane Bieber for his second start of the series. Bieber also pitched in game three, going six innings with only two earned runs and eight strikeouts. The Blue Jays added Bieber at the trade deadline and hope for a similar performance to clinch Canada’s first World Series berth since 1993.
The winner of game seven will be facing off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a one-of-a-kind matchup in the World Series, with game one on Friday, October 24.
Where to Watch
If you are in Toronto, there will be a free viewing party at 215 King St. W, hosted by the City of Toronto itself.
If you want to stay home, however, there are a few different methods to catch the game. Canadian viewers can see the game on Sportsnet, with the game being broadcast live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
Currently, the standard monthly cost for Sportsnet+ comes in at C$29.99 per month (or C$249.99 per year), while the premium option comes in at C$42.99 per month (or C$349.99 per year). There is also a CityTV+ bundle with the standard option that does raise the price to C$31.99 per month, but also gives you access to CityTV’s streaming package as well if desired.
If you have a TV subscription or happen to know someone who does, users can sign in to Sportsnet+ using a TV provider account. However, a point to note is that the content you have access to is based on your TV subscription. As an example, certain NHL games are restricted based on region if you don’t have out-of-market games added to your subscription, such as through NHL Centre Ice.
If you want to listen to the game, it can be listened to for free on two Sportsnet-owned FM radio stations: Sportsnet 590 The Fan and Sportsnet 650 The Fan in Vancouver. In terms of satellite radio, Sirius XM channels 175 and 176 will carry the game, with the latter being the home to the Mariners’ broadcast. If you want to subscribe to Sirius XM, the Platinum plan goes for C$29.99 per month and can stream MLB games.
