The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have won the 2026 USports Women’s Basketball Championships. In the championship game from the Desjardins Amphitheatre in Quebec City, Quebec on Sunday, Saskatchewan defeated the University of New Brunswick Reds 77-68.
This was the Huskies’s fourth Canadian Women’s Basketball Championship in school history. They previously beat the Ryerson Rams (now known as the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold) 85-71 in Fredericton, New Brunswick in 2016, the Brock Badgers 82-61 in Ottawa, Ontario in 2020, and the Carleton Ravens 85-66 in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2025.
On Sunday, the Huskies were led by guard Logan Reider of Saskatoon, who had 19 points off the bench. Three other Huskies reached double digits in scoring. Guard Maya Flindall of St. Albert, Alberta had 17 points, guard Gage Grassick of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan had 16 points, and forward Ella Murphy Wiebe of Saskatoon had 13 points. Murphy Wiebe had the double double as she had 10 rebounds.
The Huskies were the fifth seed in Quebec. They also beat the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 71-55 in the quarterfinals and the Laval Rouge et Or 55-43 in the semifinals.
It was Murphy Wiebe, who was the tournament Most Valuable Player. She led the USports Women’s Final Eight Basketball tournament in offensive rebounds (15), and was third in the tournament in points (15). Murphy Wiebe was also one of two Huskies players who was on the championship all-star team. The other was Grassick, who was the 2024-25 USports Player of the Year, and the 2025 championship MVP.
