After a short cinematic run, drama Steve starring Cillian Murphy is now on Netflix. To push the debut on the platform we get a brand new Trailer that teases Mr Murphy ‘can change your life’.
Since it’s debut at Toronto Film Festival, the film has picked up some very positive reviews. Directed by Belgium filmmaker Tim Mielants (Small Things Like These) with Max Porter scripting from his own award winning book, Shy. Steve is set in the 1990’s, Murphy plays the titular character who is a headmaster of a last chance reform school. The school is under threat of closure and Steve struggles to help a troubled student pushing him on a path of self destruction.

Set in the mid-90s, Steve is a reimagining of Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller Shy. The film follows a pivotal day in the life of headteacher Steve (Academy Award® winner Cillian Murphy) and his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them. As Steve fights to protect the school’s integrity and impending closure, we witness him grappling with his own mental health. In parallel to Steve’s struggles, we meet Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence.

Steve is now playing on Netflix.
