The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium had already been simmering with tension, but the atmosphere reached another level in the 18th over of Pakistan’s innings. India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered a fiery blow to Pakistan’s lower order, dismissing Haris Rauf with a searing full delivery that uprooted the off stump. What followed wasn’t just a wicket but one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament, Bumrah mocking Rauf with the very same ‘plane’ gesture that the Pakistan pacer had used to taunt Indian supporters earlier in the Super Fours clash.

Asia Cup 2025 final, IND vs PAK: Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery breakthrough and the ‘Plane’ send-off to Haris Rauf

Rauf walked in with Pakistan struggling to rebuild momentum, and his task was to add quick runs against a relentless Indian attack. Facing Bumrah in the 18th over was always going to be an uphill battle. On the fifth ball of the over, Bumrah produced a full, tailing delivery that angled in viciously towards off stump. Rauf, caught on the crease, made a desperate attempt to jab his bat down but was far too late. The ball sneaked past his defense and crashed into the off stump, sending it cartwheeling across the pitch. The crowd erupted in delight as Bumrah wheeled away in celebration. But what turned this into a headline moment was what came next, Bumrah spread his arms wide, mimicking a soaring aircraft before angling it downward, a direct reference to Rauf’s infamous taunt aimed at Indian fans earlier in the tournament.

The gesture carried symbolic weight. Rauf, who had been at the center of controversy for mocking Indian supporters during the Super Fours with a crashing-plane hand signal, found himself on the receiving end in the grandest stage of all. Bumrah’s act was not just payback but a statement of dominance, silencing the taunts with his lethal skill on the field. Rauf’s frustration was evident; after managing a streaky boundary earlier in the same over, his dismissal left Pakistan reeling at 141/9 with barely two overs to go.

The drama of the moment also brought back memories of Rauf’s earlier heated exchanges, including a verbal altercation with Indian opener Abhishek Sharma in the Super Fours. But in Dubai’s high-stakes final, it was Bumrah who had the last laugh,  turning Rauf’s own gesture into a celebration that will be etched in Asia Cup folklore.

Pakistan fold for 146 as India’ bowlers dominate Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai

The Asia Cup 2025 Final at the Dubai International Stadium has already seen plenty of drama in the first innings, with Pakistan bundled out for 146 in just 19.1 overs after electing to bat second to India’s toss decision. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave Pakistan a strong start, adding 84 runs for the first wicket, with Farhan leading the charge through a fluent 57 off 38 balls and Zaman striking 46 off 35. But once Varun Chakravarthy broke the partnership by removing Farhan, the collapse began.

Kuldeep Yadav then turned the game decisively in India’s favour with a four-wicket haul, dismissing Saim Ayub, Salman Agha, Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf in quick succession. Axar Patel’s double strikes and Bumrah’s late burst, which included dismissing Haris Rauf with a fiery ‘plane’ send-off and removing Nawaz at the death, ensured Pakistan lost their last nine wickets for just 62 runs. Despite the promising platform at 84/0 in the 10th over, Pakistan’s middle and lower order crumbled under relentless Indian pressure, with no batter after Zaman crossing double figures. India’s spinners exploited the conditions superbly, backed by sharp catching in the deep, while Bumrah provided the finishing blows. With Pakistan restricted to a below-par 146, the equation is now clear, India need 147 to lift the Asia Cup trophy once again, and the stage is set for a high-octane chase under lights.
