India‘s right-handed batter KL Rahul registered a remarkable century on Day 2 of the opening Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The innings was not just a personal milestone but also an emotional moment for his family, as wife and actress Athiya Shetty celebrated his achievement with a touching message.
KL Rahul’s steady innings to reach three figures
Resuming the day on 53, Rahul showcased immense patience and control at the crease. He adapted well to the conditions, carefully balancing caution with occasional fluent strokes. Although skipper Shubman Gill departed after completing his half-century, Rahul held his ground, continuing to accumulate runs at a steady pace.
His composed approach eventually bore fruit as he brought up his century in 190 deliveries. The knock included 12 well-placed boundaries, each reflecting his trademark elegance. It was Rahul’s second century on home soil, and more importantly, his first in India after nearly nine years.

Century but not a big score for India’s star
Despite his fine start, Rahul couldn’t extend his innings much further. Shortly after reaching his hundred, he was dismissed for exactly 100 runs off 197 deliveries. His wicket was a relief for the West Indies bowlers, who had struggled to break his resilience.
Though the innings ended sooner than he might have hoped, the knock carried immense significance. It ended a drought of 3,211 days without a home century, the last one being his unbeaten 199 against England at Chennai in 2016.
Notably, playing his 64th Test, Rahul now has 3,889 runs at an average of 36.00. His record includes 19 half-centuries alongside 11 hundreds, proving his ability to anchor innings and deliver when needed.
