The Indian women’s cricket team is aiming for their second consecutive win in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 as they prepare to face arch-rivals Pakistan women on Sunday, October 5, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India will enter the match with momentum after decisively defeating Sri Lanka in their campaign opener. In contrast, Pakistan are looking to bounce back following a seven-wicket loss to Bangladesh in their first fixture.

Rain threat looms over marquee India vs Pakistan CWC 2025 clash in Colombo

The much-anticipated encounter, scheduled at the R Premadasa Stadium, faces a significant threat from the weather after persistent and heavy rain caused the complete washout of the preceding match between Sri Lanka and Australia on Saturday, October 4. The match officials called off the Sri Lanka-Australia game well before the cut-off time due to the gloomy conditions and a waterlogged outfield, leading to both teams sharing one point each.

Meanwhile, the head-to-head record in ODIs currently stands heavily in India’s favour at a commanding 11-0 since their first meeting in 2005. A washout would therefore prevent India, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, from extending their dominant streak and see both sides earn a single point from the fixture. Fans will be anxiously monitoring the skies, hoping for a significant improvement in conditions to allow the fierce rivals to take to the field for one of the tournament’s biggest games.

IND-W vs PAK-W: Weather forecast for the CWC 2025 match in Colombo

As the highly anticipated CWC 2025 clash between India and Pakistan is set to begin on Sunday, the weather forecast suggests a significant risk of interruptions due to rain. The forecast for the day in Colombo indicates the influence of a tropical weather pattern, with the daytime expected to bring a heavy thunderstorm and a 75% chance of rain. Temperatures are predicted to hover around a high of 29degree  C and a low of 26 degree C, coupled with high humidity. Conditions may slightly improve as the day progresses into the evening, with a chance of light rain and the precipitation chance dropping to 35%. Given that the preceding match in Colombo was washed out due to persistent rain, this forecast casts a major doubt over a full contest between the arch-rivals. Players and fans should be prepared for potential delays or a shortened match as they contend with the likelihood of heavy precipitation.

    Afternoon: Heavy thunderstorm (2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

    • strong>2:30 p.m.: Expect the heavy thunderstorm to be at its peak. The sky will be dark and completely overcast. Disruptive, intense rainfall is highly probable, accompanied by thunder and lightning. The air will feel stiflingly warm and extremely humid.
    • 3:30 p.m.: The heavy thunderstorms are likely to continue with persistent and strong downpours. Visibility will be significantly reduced, and conditions will be unsuitable for any outdoor activities.
    • 4:30 p.m.: The intensity of the thunderstorm may begin to diminish slightly. The heaviest rain will likely have passed, but strong, steady rain is still probable. The high humidity and overcast conditions will persist.
    • 5:30 p.m.: The storm will be winding down, transitioning from heavy rain to more moderate showers. The peak of the day’s wet weather will be over, though the sky will remain heavily clouded.

    Evening: Light rain (6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.)

    • 6:30 p.m.: As evening sets in, the weather will shift from thunderstorms to light rain or drizzle. Damp conditions will prevail, and the air will still be very humid. The day’s heat will begin to recede, providing some minor relief.
    • 7:30 p.m.: Light rain is expected to continue intermittently. The temperature will be around 27°C, and the lingering humidity will make the air feel heavy.
    • 8:30 p.m.: The light showers will likely persist, but with longer breaks between rainfall. Conditions will be calmer and more subdued compared to the afternoon’s intense weather.
    • 9:30 p.m.: The chance of light rain continues, though it may only be a very light or scattered drizzle. Cloud cover will remain significant, and humidity levels will stay high.
    • 10:30 p.m.: Any remaining light rain will likely be tapering off completely. The skies will remain mostly overcast, with only a slight chance of further precipitation.
    • 11:30 p.m.: The rain is expected to have mostly ceased by this time. The weather will be humid and cloudy, and the wind will be a light 7 mph from the southwest.
