Ipswich Town have been criticised this morning for welcoming controversial Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to Portman Road.

Farage, who operates on the right of the UK political spectrum, posted a series of pictures on his X account in which he is seen ‘signing’ for the Suffolk club and holding up a blue shirt.

The pictures were accompanied with the quip: “I’ve never been too bad on the right wing.”

The 61-year-old was in Ipswich yesterday for a Reform rally ahead of the local elections in May.

A trip to nearby Folkestone earlier in the day had to abandoned, however, when he encountered protesters.

    Ipswich fans slam Farage link-up

Farage’s visit has seemingly not gone down well with the bulk of the club’s supporters with many replying to his tweet.

One wrote: “This shames our club. In the 1970’s we were one of the first clubs to have a racially diverse fanbase. Absolutely sickening to see this.”

Another added: “Speechless. What are you doing you idiots?”

Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League last season but could make an immediate return.

Kieran McKenna’s side sit third in the Championship table, two points behind Middlesbrough with a game in hand.
