rabble.ca is excited to officially announce Bridget Potasky as the Jack Layton Journalism for Change fellow for 2025-2026.

Bridget is based in Toronto, ON and is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University with a degree in Politics and Governance.

Bridget has written reports and communications materials for lawyers practising international humanitarian law on mass atrocity crimes, democratic backsliding, transnational repression and more. Bridget has also written articles and social media posts for Canadian Friends of Peace Now on human rights violations and injustices occurring in the Middle East.

Her passion for journalism comes from using story telling to advance justice, amplify marginalized voices, and hold power to account through exposing the truth.

Each Jack Layton Journalism for Change Fellow takes on a feature project as a part of their fellowship. Bridget’s project will be an article series on the use of the notwithstanding clause in Canada’s constitution and how its inclusion in the constitution has affected the human rights of marginalized groups.

“I am very excited to work with Bridget this winter season,” said rabble editor Nick Seebruch. “Bridget was a stand out candidate in a very competitive field of applications for this year’s fellowship program.

“Mentoring young journalists through the Jack Layton Fellowship program is one of my favourite parts of working at rabble and I am very excited to help Bridget see her feature project to completion,” he added.

A fellowship inspired by hope and social justice

In partnership with the Institute for Change Leaders, rabble.ca debuted the Jack Layton Journalism for Change Fellowship in 2017, named after the late former leader of the federal New Democratic Party who inspired all of Canada with his message of hope, solidarity and unwavering dedication to social justice.

The fellowship supports journalists at the beginning of their careers who have a passion for social justice-centered reporting.

Without the support of the Institute for Change Leaders, and rabble’s dedicated community of donors, the Jack Layton Journalism for Change program would not be possible.
