Growing up in Antioch, Tennessee, things were not easy for Jelly Roll. He repeatedly found himself in trouble and behind bars, even missing the birth of his first child, Bailee. Fortunately, he kept the faith and made drastic changes upon his release. Jelly met and married Bunnie Xo, and gained full custody of Bailee as well as partial custody of his son, Noah. Additionally, he has been nominated for several Grammys, dominated the music industry, and toured America.
Yet, what has really made him stand out is the way that he has inspired those who are lost. He shares his life story with others who are incarcerated and hopes that they see the light at the end of the tunnel. That being said, Jelly Roll has struggled to realize that he is famous. However, being a judge on Netflix’s Star Search reboot was a wake-up call. He shared that he used to be able to walk down Rodeo Drive without anyone knowing who he was, which was a gift. Now, that is not the case:
“I go to Rodeo Drive every time I’m here. The white trash kid who wants to go to Beverly Hills Cookies or something. And I’m always excited to go over there because nobody knows me. This was the first time me and my wife [were recognized].”
It seems the three-time Grammy winner liked the anonymity of grabbing a California snack under the radar. At the same time, there is no doubt that he has made it to the big time.
