Jennifer Lopez Makes Confession About Ben Affleck Divorce

The actress may have lost her fairytale marriage to the Hollywood actor, but she, in fact, gained valuable lessons from the experience, which have helped her tremendously in many ways.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce in January after two years of marriage, which had begun with a divorce filing in August 2024.

The actress opened up about her takeaways from the failed marriage, claiming that it ushered in growth in areas they had been lacking. She explained during her appearance on CBS that she was working on her latest movie project while her divorce was ongoing.

Lopez had filed for divorce last August, two years after they got married in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger ceremony in Georgia the following month.

In her words: “Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, ‘How do I work inside of this?”

PEOPLE reported that Lopez’s new film, “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which has Affleck in the executive producer’s credit, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this January, as the duo wrapped up their divorce.

Last month, a source close to the actress gushed about the significant progress she has made since the divorce, including working on her film in New York while navigating the draining divorce process. 

As reported by The Blast, the insider added that the TV star also had a super amazing tour, during which she was able to connect with her fans all over the world for the summer. The “Up All Night” tour reportedly provided enough distraction for the star, plus she gets to do what she loves.

Shortly after she signed the dotted lines of a divorce petition last August, Lopez hit the road to attend the Toronto International Film Festival, where she promoted the “Unstoppable” biopic produced by Affleck and Matt Damon.

In January, the mother of two was honored with the Legend and Groundbreakers award at Variety’s Creative Impact Awards.

With over three attempts at walking down the aisle, the dancer affirmed that her days of trial and error with marriages are over. The Blast noted that Lopez revealed this to a fan during one of the shows at her “Up All Night” tour. 

The actress has been married four times, with her first marriage to Ojani Noa in the 1990s, which lasted barely a year. She tried again with her “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” music video backup dancer, Cris Judd, in 2001, but the marriage did not survive the year, as the divorce was finalized in 2003. 

Lopez teamed up for the third time with singer Marc Anthony in 2004 and went on to have a strong run for nearly a decade, welcoming twins. However, the duo finalized their divorce in 2014, three years after they announced their separation. 

The singer and Affleck had previously dated in the early 2000s after meeting on the set of “Gigli.” The very public romance unfortunately ended in 2004, only to be reconnected in 2021.

Lopez’s marriage to Anthony was her longest and one of the most iconic pairings in Hollywood. Unfortunately, when the marriage ended, it left Lopez in a very emotional state where she battled with resentment and anger.

The actress confessed that while it was her third marriage, it felt difficult for her to find forgiveness and closure, as divorce was not the dream she had built for herself. The media personality noted that she endured the marriage for that long, despite having an early epiphany that she was in the wrong situation.

However, with the twins in the picture, Lopez admitted she knew she had to get past those ill feelings and put up a united front. “But Marc is the father of my children, and that’s never going away. So I have to work to make things right. And that is, by far, the hardest work I do,” she added.

Following the finalization of her divorce, the actress splurged on a new property in Hidden Hills and instantly began to add the JLO’s touch in her usual tradition.

Jlo’s Hidden Hills mansion was reportedly purchased for $21 million and sits on a 10,046-square-foot lot. The home features a main house, aguest house, apool house, abarn, stables, a riding arena, and a pool. 

The actress also gets to enjoy the ambiance of a private theater, achef’s kitchen, and a fully equipped gym. For this home, the actress was inspired by her desire to find peace away from the busy city, and despite its proximity to Affleck and his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, the actress feels relaxed and safe.

Lopez’s new location also boasts premium security, which means her kids can move around without fear of harassment or panic from the doting mom.
