Jessie James Decker may have built her career in music, fashion, and entrepreneurship, but reality television played a major role in introducing her life to the world, and looking back, she says the experience was far more authentic than many fans might expect. The singer and entrepreneur teamed up with AbbVie for the Love in Mind initiative, where she shared her reflections at this Valentine’s Day–themed event focused on relationships, communication, and navigating personal challenges. While the event centered on health and connection, Jessie James Decker also took time to look back on her experiences in the spotlight, opening up in an exclusive interview with The Blast about what reality TV was really like behind the scenes, and whether she’d ever consider returning.

For Jessie, the success of “Eric & Jessie” came down to one simple reason: authenticity. “With our reality show, we were just ourselves,” she told The Blast during our one-on-one chat. “And I think that’s why it worked.”

Rather than feeling manufactured, Jessie James Decker says the show felt more like a real-time snapshot of her life, including moments most people don’t get to preserve forever. “I almost looked at it in a way of, I got to document my whole wedding experience, and I get to have that forever,” she said. “Who gets to do that?”

Decker Says Hidden Cameras Made Reality TV Feel Natural

While reality television is often associated with staged drama and constant camera crews, Jessie says her experience couldn’t have been more different, especially during her time on “Dancing With The Stars.” “When you’re on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ you know you have a job to do,” she said. “You’re so focused on learning the dance, you don’t even think about the cameras.”

In fact, Jessie James Decker revealed that when she did ‘Special Forces,’ many of the cameras weren’t obvious at all. “There were no cameras,” she said with a laugh, before clarifying. “They were all hidden cameras.”

From discreetly placed equipment in rooms to cameras mounted in the backs of cars, Jessie says filming felt surprisingly natural. “It wasn’t like these big camera crews,” she explained. “You never really noticed the cameras because they were all kind of in the background.” That subtle setup, she says, allowed her to stay present, and most importantly, herself.

When asked whether she’d ever return to reality television, Jessie didn’t give a definitive answer, but she also didn’t rule it out. “You were the second person to ask me,” she said, before admitting she hasn’t watched an episode of “The Traitors,” a show many fans believe she’d thrive on. “I’ve never seen an episode,” she said. “Would I like it?”

After hearing more about the premise, which centers on strategy, deception, and social gameplay, Jessie wasn’t immediately convinced. “I don’t like chaotic stuff,” she admitted, though she did say she might give it a watch.

While Jessie James Decker didn’t commit to a reality TV comeback, her reflections made it clear that authenticity has always been her priority, whether cameras are rolling or not.

Opening Up About Life With Migraine

While the evening also touched on fame and life in the public eye, the heart of the Love in Mind event centered on Jessie James Decker’s candid conversation about living with migraine, a condition she says has quietly shaped both her personal life and relationships for years.

Jessie shared that migraine isn’t something she can simply push through, especially when symptoms flare unexpectedly. “Whenever I have a migraine, I have to just shut it down, listen to myself, listen to my body,” she explained, noting that even carefully planned moments can quickly be derailed.

Those interruptions, she admitted, often come with an emotional weight. “There are moments where you just can’t be intimate or present,” Jessie James Decker said. “And that’s hard, especially when you already feel like you’re missing out.”

Jessie also emphasized how misunderstood migraine can be, calling it an “invisible” illness that doesn’t always receive the validation it deserves. “Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be validated,” she stressed.

For years, that lack of understanding led Jessie to minimize her own experience. She revealed that she would sometimes blame other illnesses instead, simply to be taken seriously. Now, Jessie says she’s learned to advocate for herself, lean on communication, and speak openly, especially within her marriage.

By sharing her story, she hopes others living with migraine feel seen, supported, and encouraged to take their pain seriously.
