Jim Carrey recently made headlines during his appearance at the César Awards, where he was given a big honor. However, many were caught off guard by his appearance in the media surrounding the event, with fans thinking he looked like a different person. Since then, a specialist recently weighed in on what could really be going on.
Jim Carrey Was Recently Awarded A César D’Honneur In Paris
Carrey, known for his work in films like The Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, recently appeared at the César Film Awards in Paris, which is often considered a French counterpart to the Oscars. Honored with a César d’honneur, the Ontario native was celebrated for his lifetime of work in cinema.
At the moment, however, many fans were surprised by Carrey’s appearance after seeing him in media connected to the event. As many noted, his face seemed different, and even his eyes appeared to be a different color than usual.
Taking to social media, various fans shared theories as to what could be going on. Many attributed this to aging, Carrey getting work done, or even a trick of the light or angle. Some even shared a meme claiming that Carrey was being impersonated.
Since the story went viral, however, one specialist has weighed in on the issue, claiming that they think they know what is going on, as well as what isn’t. According to Radar Online, triple-board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Raffi Hovsepian broke down a few of the changes in Carrey’s face. Notably, the specialist believed it wasn’t due to any cosmetic work.
The Doctor Noted Which Area Had The Most Notable ‘Shift’ In Appearance
Looking at photos, Dr. Hovsepian noted that the star’s forehead and brow area actually seemed “consistent with normal male aging rather than surgical alteration.” Meanwhile, Carrey’s eye area showed “mild hollowing and some skin laxity consistent with age.”
The doctor also emphasized that they didn’t see any evidence of a blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. They continued, noting, “If anything, the changes here appear consistent with natural volume loss and dermal thinning.”
The doctor thought the most notable “shift” was in the midface and cheek area. They continued, noting it appeared fuller when compared to earlier images. Dr. Hovsepian noted that this could be due to mild hyaluronic acid filler or temporary post-treatment swelling from recent volumizing treatments. They continued, noting, “The male midface is ideally flatter and more structural. When fullness increases here, it can soften masculine definition.”
According to the outlet, Dr. Hovsepian also noted some softening around the jawline. However, it was noted that this was normal with aging.
