Fans continue to tune into The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the show is set to reach its final episode within a few months. During this time, another figure in late-night television, Jimmy Fallon, decided to give Colbert a bit of a send-off. In fact, Fallon had a few surprises for Colbert during the big moment.
Jimmy Fallon Recently Paid Stephen Colbert A Visit
Colbert first took on hosting duties for The Late Show in 2015. At the time, he was taking over for David Letterman.
However, CBS recently announced that the show would be coming to an end, with them retiring the Late Show format. The series finale is set to air on May 21, 2026.
In the interim, Colbert got a visit from another late-night alum to join him during one of his final shows. This was Jimmy Fallon, who took over hosting duties for The Tonight Show in 2014, with both famous talk shows being based in New York City.
Dropping by the Ed Sullivan Theater to wish Colbert well, Fallon decided to send him off with a song. This was a parody of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” with lyrics reflecting Colbert’s career. Calling the tune “You Did It Your Way,” it even touched on the host’s time on The Colbert Report.
During the song, Fallon teased what Colbert could do next, including appearing on Dancing with the Stars and running for president. He also poked fun at his own rivalry of sorts with Jimmy Kimmel.
Fallon Had A Few Surprises For Colbert During The Episode
As the song drew to a close, Fallon got up on his seat. This caused Colbert to stand up on his desk, welcoming Fallon to do the same. The two embraced each other as the segment came to an end.
This wasn’t the only gift Fallon had planned for the Late Show host. Earlier in the visit, Fallon also showed off another tribute to Colbert: a painting he had commissioned of him on a boat with his dog, Benny, complete with an American flag. The image had been based on a photo of the two on the water, which was also shown for comparison’s sake.

The segment was also uploaded on the show’s YouTube page. Thanks to this, many fans shared their reactions to the moment, including both the song and the painting. Some comments included:
- “Jimmy really brought his all to this presentation. Laughs, charm, and genuine love for his friend through paint and song. What a lovely display of brotherly affection.”
- “The friendship among the late-night hosts is one of the best things about American TV. Time will pass and these shows will go, but these years of late night will forever be remembered.”
- “That painting’s genuinely meaningful! He doesn’t know where he’s going but he’s got all his love with him, his dog, his country, his family on the life preserver!”
- “You did it your way! Thank you, Stephen & Jimmy.”
