Jimmy Kimmel has seen his late-night show come under fire when it faced suspension last year. Recently, the story was alluded to by one of the show’s guests. However, Kimmel decided to address what happened in an interesting way.
Jimmy Kimmel Saw His Namesake Late Show Suspended Back In September 2025
Kimmel has been hosting his Los Angeles-based namesake show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, since 2003. By the mid-2010s, Kimmel became one of the longest-serving current late-night hosts.
Over the years, however, fans have seen the show go through various hiatuses. More recently, around September 17, 2025, the series was briefly suspended. This came out after Kimmel made comments concerning President Donald Trump and his supporters’ reactions to the shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
On September 22, however, it was announced that the show would resume production. By the following December, Kimmel shared on social media that the show had been extended for at least another year.
While Kimmel is known for being blunt, especially during monologues, he recently went another route when a guest alluded to the suspension of the show. This guest was Tyler Perry, who saw Kimmel pitch him a movie idea, based on a story he heard from two people from the audience.

Kimmel & Guest Tyler Perry Had A Bit Of A Back-&-Forth During The Episode
However, once the interview picked up, Perry noted, “It is good to see you, my friend. It’s very good to see you. No, it’s very good to see you, here, no, no,” as Kimmel and Perry went back and forth praising each other.
On a more serious note, Perry shared, “No, no, it’s very good to see you because there was a moment where we were worried that the show wouldn’t be on the air.” He added, “So to see America rally around you…”
This caused Kimmel to tease, “Why, what happened?” This caused the audience and Perry himself to break out into laughter. While Kimmel jokingly feigned ignorance over the show’s suspension, Perry continued, “We had your back, buddy. We had your back, so I’m so glad you’re here.” This was a nod to various industry figures coming out in support of Kimmel during the brief suspension. To this, however, Kimmel thanked Perry, saying that he “appreciated” that.
Throughout his appearance, Perry also discussed how things were going in his career. This included talking about his Georgia studio and his new movie, Joe’s College Road Trip.
