Jodie Foster is an Oscar-winning actress with decades of experience. But even the most seasoned actors flub their lines sometimes. She made a hilarious mistake while on The Today Show this week while promoting her new movie. Find out more about the unexpected flub and her reaction.
Jodie Foster Has New Movie Coming Out
Jodie Foster was just twelve years old when she landed her breakout role as a child prostitute in the 1976 film Taxi Driver. She is one of the most acclaimed actresses today with two Oscars and countless other awards. Once she found her footing, she was more selective about the roles she took.
The Oscar-winning actress expressed confusion about the current generation of actors. “I see a lot of young actors, and I’m not saying I’m jealous, but I don’t understand how they just want to act. They don’t care if the movie’s bad. They don’t care if the dialogue is bad,” she told Variety in 2025.
Jodie Foster’s new movie is a departure from what fans are used to seeing her in. In A Private Life, she plays a psychiatrist who decides to investigate a patient’s sketchy death. The movie is entirely in French. It turns out that Jodie Foster is a fluent speaker of the foreign language.
Oscar-Winning Actress Makes Hilarious Mistake Live On The Today Show
Jodie Foster has been making the talk show rounds this week to promote the movie, which hits theaters on January 16. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress recounted spilling a drink on herself before hosting Saturday Night Live in the 1970s.
But she had a real-time mishap while appearing on The Today Show. She joined host Craig Melvin in the New York City studio to chat about her upcoming movie. Jodie Foster opened up about how she learned to speak fluent French. Her mother sent her to French lessons as a young girl.

“She went to France on one of those bus trips, and came back and said, ‘That’s it. You’re going to learn French, you’re going to go to French school, some day you’ll be a French actor living in France. That was her dream for me and for herself,” Jodie Foster told Craig Melvin.
The actress had nearly completed the interview without any issues but then made a hilarious blunder. Craig Melvin asked her to promote the NBC show in French. “Can we say something like ‘This is Today on NBC in French?’” he asked.
But after repeating the line in French, Craig Melvin pointed out that Jodie Foster had accidentally said the name of a rival network. Instead of “NBC,” the actress said “CBS.”
The actress was momentarily confused before defending herself. “Well, it’s the same letters,” she said. Craig Melvin joked that CBS is a “stupid network.” The Oscar winner apologized for the mix-up, but the Today host brushed it off.
Jodie Foster clearly takes acting very seriously, so viewers were delighted to see the lighter moment.
