Katie Couric is a journalist with a prominent career involving various famous outlets. Recently, however, she wanted to impart a few messages to her fans. This came about as she looked back on the loss of a loved one.
Katie Couric Expressed One ‘Wish’ In Particular During The Discussion
Couric has worked with a number of outlets over the years. This includes CNN, NBC News, CBS News, and ABC News.
Couric is also known for founding the multimedia news and media company, Katie Couric Media. Starting in 2016, she also started hosting the podcast, Next Question with Katie Couric.
In her personal life, Couric was married to Jay Monahan from 1989 to his death in 1998. He was 42 at the time of his passing, which was attributed to colorectal cancer. In 2014, she married John Molner.
Recently, Couric spoke about her late husband, noting that she still misses him, in a conversation with USA Today. Looking back at taking care of him amid his battle with cancer, she opened up about something she regretted the most.
Couric Shared A Few Things She Hoped Listeners Would Take To Heart
Couric shared, “My biggest regret, I think, was that I never really talked to my husband about the possibility that he might die, quite frankly. We never had those hard conversations.”
The journalist continued, “I wish we had gone to talk to somebody who could have helped facilitate that kind of conversation, honestly, because the only way I knew to deal with Jay’s illness was to not give up hope and keep saying, ‘We’ll figure this out.’” Couric then called out to people to not be afraid to have these conversations or “ask for help.”

As the outlet noted, Jay was also survived by his two daughters with Katie, Ellie, and Carrie. Their mother also mused on just how much they accomplished and how their father would be proud of them. She shared, “He missed seeing his daughters grow up. He missed watching Ellie get married. He missed seeing Carrie, you know, be Phi Beta Kappa at Stanford. He’d be so proud of both of them.”
Once again wanting to send a message to fans, Couric also highlighted that people as young as twenty-somethings have been diagnosed with the disease. She then expressed, “It’s absolutely critical that at the first sign of any symptom, people go see their doctor and bring up or question whether it could be colorectal cancer.”
