Talk show hosts like Kelly Ripa and Whoopi Goldberg may bring in the viewers. But the daytime shows would shut down if it weren’t for the producers and the crew members. A week after Whoopi Goldberg scolded a crew member live on The View, Kelly Ripa brought a LIVE producer to tears. Keep reading to find out what happened.
Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Weigh In On Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension
Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show was suspended from the air earlier this month due to comments he made about podcaster Charlie Kirk’s death. The suspension was lifted less than a week later. But the unexpected punishment sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
Other talk show hosts either spoke out in support of Jimmy Kimmel or stayed silent so they wouldn’t get canceled, too. In a rare occurrence, LIVE With Kelly and Mark hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos shared their thoughts on the situation.
LIVE isn’t a political show. The ABC talk show focuses mainly on entertainment topics, including celebrity interviews. But not even Kelly and Mark could stay silent after what happened to Jimmy Kimmel.
“One thing we can all agree on as a country is that the First Amendment is very important,” Mark Consuelos said after Jimmy Kimmel show was back on the air. He reminded viewers that they don’t talk about politics on the show but had to break the rule for an important topic.
Kelly Ripa Makes LIVE Producer Cry On-Air
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are up for another Daytime Emmy for their roles as hosts of LIVE With Kelly and Mark. They won the award last year. The 2025 Daytime Emmys will be live in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, October 17. Unfortunately, they won’t air on television this year.
The former soap stars are the face of the show. But one producer is a constant presence on stage, just beyond the camera. Michael Gelman has been the producer of LIVE since the show began. In fact, he worked with Regis Philbin on the talk show that preceded LIVE With Regis and Kathie Lee.
The longtime producer was finally honored for a lifetime of work. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos were on hand to honor Michael Gilman when he received the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame Award in New York City, New York, earlier this week.
Kelly Ripa told the audience all about the night to remember. “I’m not going to lie, I got very emotional,” she said. Michael Gilman also got emotional while she was talking about the awards. He could barely hold back the tears as the LIVE hosts gushed over him.
Mark Consuelos Praises Producer As Backbone Of The Show
Mark Consuelos officially joined LIVE as co-host in 2023, but had been guest-hosting the show for years before that. Like his wife, he’s very familiar with how important Michael Gilman is to the show.

“Talk shows come and go. The fact that you’ve been able to keep this show going? When something looks easy, it’s usually because it’s really, really not. Michael Gelman, I’ve got to tell you, you’ve mastered the art of keeping this show relevant, fun, happy, with different iterations,” he said.
