Khloe Kardashian’s love life has made headlines for years. She dated former Houston Rockets player James Harden for nearly a year. Her marriage to former NBA player Lamar Odom ended in divorce after infidelity and substance abuse.
The reality star seemingly found the one in another NBA star, Tristan Thompson. They were expecting their second child via a surrogate when an explosive scandal revealed he, too, was cheating on her. They split in 2021, though they remain friendly co-parents to their two children.
But before those three athletes, she briefly dated Rashad McCants, a shooting guard with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their romance and split were featured on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. During one episode, Khloe’s sister, Kim, helps her break into Rashad McCants’ voicemail, where they discover proof that he was cheating on her.
In a new interview, the former NBA star said that his relationship with Khloe Kardashian damaged his career. He made the claim in an interview with Basketball Network. According to Rashad McCants, dating a celebrity was frowned upon back when he was dating Khloe Kardashian. He said that dating celebrities is more acceptable now because the NBA has social media contracts with players.
“Well, because the broadcasting deals in the social media outlets are now a part of the NBA. So, it’s not a distraction. But before, it was a distraction, and the powers didn’t want players to do anything outside of the NBA that would be considered a distraction,” he said.
So, you didn’t see a lot of guys doing music. You didn’t see a lot of guys in fashion shows, didn’t see a lot of guys dating celebrities and being in movies. There were only a select few guys, and they were all high-profile guys,” he added about opportunities for NBA players at the time he dated Khloe Kardashian.
“So, for me, to not be a high-profile guy and be in a small market in Minnesota, it was more of a distraction than a compliment.”
Rashad McCants Urges Younger Athletes Not To Make The Same Mistake
I was one of the early bloomers for all of those things, and it didn’t help my situation,” Rashad McCants said in the interview. He advised up-and-coming NBA players not to make the same mistake he did.
The former basketball player said he “paid a price” for dating Khloe Kardashian. He said he hoped younger players learned from him to focus on basketball and do the other stuff after they’re out of the league.
