The return of the ex-king of the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson, can only be made possible through the initiative of his old comrade, Stephen Curry. A new report says that the insiders consider Curry to be the one who can reunite the “Splash Brothers” in the Bay Area, thus presenting the expected trade as a matter of personal trust rather than a tactical decision concerning the roster.

The basis for the rumors is none other than NBA expert Anthony Slater, who mentioned league sources that are very familiar with the situation. The people around Thompson apparently believe that a reconciliation “could eventually happen” because as one of the sources said, “Nobody has more impact on Klay than Steph.” The key factor though is that Curry must “push for it” himself. This puts the future Hall of Famer in a very powerful position of influence which at the same time might be awkward for the Warriors’ front office.
Thompson, a five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion with Golden State, left in free agency last summer when he signed a three-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks. This was a sad end to one of the league’s most legendary dynasties with only Curry remaining as the core member from the championship runs who is somehow still in the team. The very thought of his comeback, even if it is in a diminished role, is such a pull for the Warriors’ nostalgic fanbase.
The rumor drew a quick and heavily divided reaction on social media, reflecting the hard legacy that Thompson now has to cope with. The emotions ranged from heartwarming nostalgia to basketball logic that was cold but could not be ignored.
The public showed a strong emotional bond with the idea of the duo’s return. “True warriors fans miss Klay,” one poster commented, and this was the shared sentiment among those wishing to “bring him home” and make the fans experience “the greatest backcourt of all time a few more times.” Someone else summed it up nicely: “What a treat it would be if he were coming off the bench, preparing the court for one last playoff push, pure poetry for the dynasty’s farewell.”
On the other hand, a large segment of the audience viewed the idea from a tough, sometimes brutal, and often comedic angle, pointing to the current challenges the team is facing. ‘Unless he’s coming back on a vet minimum.. otherwise thanks but pass,’ one user reasoned, citing the team’s financial restrictions. Others completely dismissed the idea of appropriate basketball fit. ‘Truthfully, and I mean, there is no disrespect curry pull your head out of your ass,’ one blunt comment read. ‘You should try not to carry another player. I don’t care how close your relationship is. You should be focusing on getting one more ring. Klay ain’t what it used to be.’
The debate often shifted to comparing Thompson to the current Warriors’ roster, particularly young guard Brandin Podziemski. ‘Fuck it he’s better than Podz,’ one user said without any doubt, while another went, ‘I’ll trade podz for klay in a heartbeat.’ This led to a brief discussion with some people supporting Podziemski’s potential and others agreeing that Thompson, shooting and scoring even at 34 years old, would still be a valuable asset for a team that is around .500. ‘He can’t be worse than what we have,’ one casual observer made a comment.
The main issue leading to all these replies is the ambiguous situation around Thompson’s exit. One user simply asked, ‘Does anyone actually think klay isn’t going to retire with the warriors?’ He seems to imply that for many the storybook ending is still considered as an inevitable choice. Another person complained: ‘Crazy the splash brothers ended this way.’

For the time being, it seems to be the case that it is Stephen Curry who will have to make the call. The report suggests that if the franchise’s cornerstone chooses to let it be a personal affair then the upper management of the Warriors would seriously consider taking Thompson back. This puts Curry in a tricky position – loyally sticking to a comrade-at-arms or what some might see as the best, objective route for a team still trying to reclaim its contender status. Whether he chooses to wield that heavy influence is the key unanswered question in the unfolding Bay Area theatrics. The final chapter of the Splash Brothers saga might not have been written yet. This situation is reminiscent of recent Mavericks commentary. Off the court, Curry continues to build his brand, while he and Ayesha remain committed to philanthropy.
