Koodo is raising prices by $7 for some wireless customers this month.
Koodo customers shared the increase on Reddit, posting a picture of their bill showing the incoming price hike. The bill notes that the $7/mo increase will take place starting in March. Moreover, it explained that the increase is actually $12, but the autopay discount is also increasing from $5 to $10, resulting in a net increase of $7.
Koodo also noted that if any customers do not agree with the change, they can cancel without penalty within 30 days of the change’s effective date.
The customer who shared the notice on the r/Koodo subreddit noted that they were on the $35/60GB plan from Aug. 2024, with a $5/mo autopay discount. The user also noted that they got a free 25GB data add-on last November.
Several users have also shared similar statements, with most stating that they were long-term customers on cheaper plans from a couple of years ago, such as the $35/60GB plan.
Further, many people offered advice on how to deal with the price increase. Tips ranged from calling Koodo and asking the retentions department for a better price, to filing a complaint with the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS). (For the latter, it’s worth noting that Canada’s Wireless Code mandates carriers offer 30 days’ notice of changes, such as to the price.)
Another option when hit by bill increases like this is to leave. Many Canadian wireless providers offer better deals to new customers, so it’s always worth shopping around to see what you can get. Plus, if you switch, your old carrier might try to get you back with a win-back offer, which often are much better than in-market options.
Now, Koodo isn’t the only telecommunications company to increase prices by $7/mo. I recently reported on Rogers increasing its home internet and TV packages by $7/mo this month.
