KPop Demon Hunters has taken the world by storm, with fans wanting to see more of HUNTR/X. Recently, a sequel film has been officially announced. Moreover, a few of the talents behind the original film have even shared a few statements.
Rumi, Mira, & Zoey Took The World By Storm Back In June 2025
The original animated fantasy film made its debut on Netflix in June 2025. It followed the K-pop girl group, HUNTR/X, made up of Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). The three use their magically singing powers to protect the world from demonic threats.
This includes the demonic Saja Boys, minions of the demon ruler, Gwi-Ma, who also form a rival boy band to the girls. Meanwhile, Rumi has to deal with a secret of her own, as well as complicated feelings between her and the Saja Boys’ leader, Jinu.
At the time of the film’s original release, it made history as the streamer’s most-watched animated film ever. Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, who provided the singing voices for the three heroines, have also made multiple appearances as the characters, performing their famous songs. This has included Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Some Of The Stars Of KPop Demon Hunters Hoped For A Sequel
The film’s popularity has meant that fans have been asking about a sequel for quite some time. However, the second film was officially announced on March 12, 2026.
According to Netflix’s Tudum, Maggie King, who developed the concept of the original film, will return to work on the sequel, as will co-director Chris Appelhans. Kang shared, “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
As the outlet shared, Appelhans shared, “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve. And continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”
At this time, an official synopsis for the sequel hasn’t been revealed. However, the film is expected to be released on Netflix, where fans can still enjoy the first film.
Months before the news was confirmed, Cho, Hong, and Yoo had previously shown interest in reprising their roles for a sequel. Speaking with Mama’s Geeky back in June, Yoo shared, “I’ve already told Maggie [Kang] and Chris [Appelhans] that there has to be a follow-up. I would totally do it again. I’ll be honestly a little bummed if we can’t do a sequel.” Cho also shared that she “would be heartbroken if there isn’t a sequel.”
