Many prominent figures have been making headlines after it’s come to light that their names are on the Epstein list. Recently, Stephen Colbert discovered his name was included as well. Therefore, he shared his side of the story during a recent episode of his late-night talk show. Keep reading for more on what the late night host had to say.
Stephen Colbert Discussed The Story On The Late Show
The Epstein files are made up of documents, images, and videos detailing the criminal activities of the late convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This included his circle of various public figures, including politicians and celebrities.
The Epstein files were released by the Department of Justice at the end of January. More than three million files were included in the release, with the names of various figures attached.
Recently, comedian Stephen Colbert, the current host of The Late Show for CBS, shared that he learned his name was included in the release. During his past Wednesday monologue, he shared, “I got a little curious and did a little searching to see if I was in the files.”
Colbert learned he was, but for an unexpected reason. An associate of Epstein’s was a fan of his from his work with The Colbert Report. He shared, “And unfortunately, I am because one of Epstein’s associates was a fan of my old show, The Colbert Report, particularly of my explanation of massive anonymous campaign coffers known as Super PACs.”

Colbert hosted The Colbert Report from 2005 to 2014 for Comedy Central. It was in 2015 that he took over his current role on The Late Show for CBS.
A Frequent Collaborator Of Colbert’s Name Also Appeared In The Files
Colbert’s 2014 report on super PACS caught the attention of an Epstein associate, who sent a clip of the show to Epstein himself. The sender, whose name was redacted, asked the late financier to donate to a candidate through a forwarded email. They added, “No one explains it better than Stephen Colbert – it’s really funny – think Jeffery will enjoy watching!”
Colbert shared a screenshot of this email, causing the studio audience to laugh. This caused Colbert to tease, “Well, there’s no such thing as bad publicity!” Colbert then shared a fictional billboard for the show that read, “It’s really funny. Think Jeffrey will enjoy watching.”

As noted by The Daily Beast, Colbert’s frequent collaborator Jon Stewart also found his name included in an email between Epstein and Hollywood producer Barry Josephson. At the time, the two were hoping to develop a Woody Allen stand-up special. Allegedly, they considered “somebody like Jon Stewart” to serve as a narrator.
Currently, The Late Show is expected to air its final episode on Thursday, May 21, 2026. As previously reported, this comes out as CBS announced plans to retire the Late Show franchise.
