If you own an LG TV, you might notice there’s now an app for Microsoft’s Copilot AI chatbot. Naturally, you might also want to remove it, especially since you probably didn’t ask for it to be there in the first place. Well, unfortunately, it’s stuck there.
As several LG smart TV owners have pointed out on the perfectly named mildlyinfuriating Reddit, various models, including those from 2022 and 2023, now suddenly have the Copilot app. And while there’s an option to hide it from the home screen, it can’t be removed altogether.
It should be noted that LG did confirm at CES this year that Copilot would come to its next lineup of TVs, but it didn’t mention that a mandatory app would roll out to generations of sets. It’s the latest in a series of annoying pushes from Microsoft to have Copilot across its products, even gaming devices like the ROG Xbox Ally.
And yet, many people aren’t interested in Copilot. According to a recent report from The Information, the company has actually slashed growth targets for its various AI efforts, including Copilot, because of low user demand. Of course, allowing options isn’t inherently a bad thing, but it’s an annoying slippery slope to start forcing the app onto people. We’ve seen similar examples of the company putting off users when it would shove Edge down their throats.
