Lily Allen and David Harbour are moving on from their shared past, starting with the Brooklyn townhouse that once symbolized their marriage.

The sale comes as Allen continues to open up about her split from Harbour and the heartbreak that shaped her album, “West End Girl.” 

Lily Allen confirmed that her new music was deeply influenced by the end of their four-year marriage to David Harbour. 

The pair has listed their four-story brownstone in Carroll Gardens for $7.99 million, less than four years after purchasing it for just over $3.3 million.

They bought the 19th-century property in 2021 and gave it a significant overhaul, working with acclaimed designer Billy Cotton and architect Ben Bischoff of MADE to turn it into a stylish, modern family home. 

The five-bedroom, four-bath residence sits on one of the neighborhood’s most desirable streets, and its sale marks a major step in the former couple’s separation. TMZ shared that the house itself played a role in Allen’s upcoming album, “West End Girl.” 

The title track references the home and details the breakdown of her marriage, including claims that Harbour misled her about wanting an open relationship, an alleged betrayal that nearly derailed her sobriety.

The townhouse is not the only thing stirring attention after their split. Allen’s new album has also raised eyebrows, especially over a name dropped in one track that hints at a possible third party.   

The Blast shared that in an interview with The Times of London, she finally addressed the mystery behind “Madeline,” the name that sparked intense speculation. Allen revealed that “Madeline” is not a real person but “a fictional character” meant to explore blurred lines in modern relationships. 

She reflected, “Intimacy is inherently messy. There are usually agreed-upon boundaries in relationships, but whether those boundaries are adhered to or not is becoming a grey area all of a sudden.”

In keeping with her recent confessions, she made it clear that her lyrics reflect her true emotions. The 40-year-old made it clear she has no interest in open relationships, saying it has never been something she wanted or considered, in either of her marriages.

She explained that her feelings stem from her upbringing, revealing that growing up in an unstable home left her longing for security and consistency. 

Allen’s stance sheds light on how deeply her past and her recent breakup with Harbour have affected her. On her podcast, she admitted the split left her struggling to cope, saying, “I’ve been spiraling and spiraling.”

Allen’s music comeback is dominating headlines, but it may be creating problems for her ex-husband. The Blast reported that as she celebrates the success of her new album, Harbour has stepped out of the spotlight, with insiders claiming the project’s release has shaken his public image.

In a candid chat with The Sunday Times, Allen revealed that her songs came from genuine emotion, recalling how she “cried for two hours” before turning her pain into music. But while her honesty is fueling her creative resurgence, it is reportedly having the opposite effect on Harbour’s career.

Sources say Netflix executives view the album’s timing, just ahead of “Stranger Things'” final season, as intentional and damaging, with concerns it could derail his role in the show’s promotion. 

Apart from getting candid about her new music, Allen is also opening up about the struggles of starting over. The Blast noted that the TV personality admitted she misses the comfort and security that came with marriage as she adjusts to life after Harbour.

Reflecting on her breakup, Allen said it has been difficult to accept that she no longer has “her person” and confessed that the idea of dating again feels exhausting. 

“The dating scene is much harder as a 40-year-old woman with two teenage children than it is for a 34-year-old woman. It’s bitterly disappointing,” she shared. 

Allen did not hold back on her frustrations either, calling the modern dating scene “bitterly disappointing.” She also spoke about the stigma older women face, describing the experience as one filled with “humiliation and shame.”
