Lip Critic have announced their new album, Theft World, out May 1 via Partisan.
The LP was shaped while Lip Critic were on tour for their 2024 debut, Hex Dealer, after vocalist Bret Kaser realized his identity had been stolen. They found the scammer and, instead of calling the police, heard his explanation for the theft: He was a fan who believed the band’s music contained hidden messages and codes, having used Kaser’s information to buy their full discography on Bandcamp alongside hundreds of other purchases. After listening to his reasoning, Lip Critic scrapped their original plans for a new album and created the project the thief talked about.

“Theft World is an ode to the power and pervasiveness of stealing,” the band say. “It’s about taking something ugly and using it to make something cute. It’s about eating an absurd world and falling in love with it as you digest.”
The band shared the lead single and video directed by Colter Fellows for “Legs In A Snare,” a love song that warps into horror by exploring the obsession, distraction, and addiction in a volatile relationship. This spring, Lip Critic will begin their U.S./U.K. headline tour with support from Bejalvin and Flatwounds.
