Man Confessed To Starting Walmart Fire

According to local reports, the fire broke out around 11:27 a.m. on Sunday, prompting a call to the York Police Department. When officers arrived, a 911 dispatcher reportedly told them that a man was admitting to starting the blaze — later identified as Eckman. Police say he was found near dumpsters on the property and was quickly arrested.

During questioning, Eckman allegedly admitted he knew people were inside the store and claimed he had considered their locations when starting the fire. Authorities added that he provided details about the fire that only someone who had witnessed it would know. The resulting blaze destroyed nearly $15,000 in merchandise, not including damage to the store itself.

Law enforcement asked the public to come forward with any information about Eckman or the fire. The Walmart has reopened, and authorities booked Eckman into York County Jail on a $2,500 bond. He is also facing charges of first-degree arson, terroristic threats, and criminal mischief, causing over $5,000 in damages. His first court appearance took place on Wednesday, November 19,  leaving the community and shoppers stunned by the brazen act. Many locals are still processing how a man started a fire while people were inside, and the community is buzzing with reactions to the shocking incident.
