In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Marlon Wayans, who starred in and co-created the Scary Movie franchise with his brothers Shawn and Keenen Ivory, spoke about what horror films could be spoofed in their next sequel, Scary Movie 6. In August, it was announced that the next film in the franchise was going to hit cinemas on June 12, 2026, with the franchise’s original stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall due to return.
“I’m just a fan of the whole genre, man,” he said. “I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners.”
The first original film in the franchise, Scary Movie, debuted in 2000 and grossed $42 million at the domestic box office. The whole franchise has a combined gross of almost $900 million at the worldwide box office. The franchise spoofed many popular horror films such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Exorcist, The Shining, The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project, and The Ring.
Scary Movie 6 is going to be released in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
