Driver Crashed Into Children’s Birthday Party In Maryland
When you think of children’s birthday parties, you think of a time when children are carefree and untouched by the true horrors of the real world. Birthday parties for kids are a time to gather with friends and make core memories that will last a lifetime.
Unfortunately, based on an incident that went down in Bladensburg, Maryland, a recent children’s party on Saturday, October 18, turned into a nightmare. According to PEOPLE, a vehicle struck a group of people gathered in front of a residence to celebrate a child’s birthday, and there was plenty of carnage in the aftermath.
Based on this latest tragedy out of Maryland, several lives and several families have been altered as a result of this accident. As a whole, the crash has left one person dead and several others injured, including both children and adults. In this instance, what should have been a happy birthday party turned into an unspeakable horror.
Birthday Party Crash Leaves One Dead And Several Injured
According to PEOPLE, “At around 10:14 p.m. local time on Saturday, Oct. 18, the police responded to reports of ‘a motor vehicle collision that resulted in numerous injuries’ in a residential neighborhood in Bladensburg, the Bladensburg Police Department (BPD) said in a news release.”
“A vehicle that traveled from the area of Annapolis Road struck several individuals who were gathered in front of a residence for a child’s birthday party,” according to the BPD.
The driver “fled the scene on foot,” and “has been identified as a 66-year-old male from Washington, D.C.” In addition, “Consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney is underway and criminal charges are pending against the driver,” according to authorities.
One victim of the incident, unfortunately, lost her life as a result of her injuries: 31-year-old Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez. Among those injured are children and adults. This is certainly a sad example of a happy gathering resulting in tragedy.
Authorities provided an update on the conditions of the remaining victims, adding, “Six of the juvenile victims have been treated and released, and one has been admitted and is in stable condition. Three adult victims have been admitted to the hospital and are in stable condition, one is pending treatment, and one has been released.”
